You may hear the words “aerial workout” and think “What is that?” and, “Is it even possible?” However, you might be surprised to find out how accessible antigravity fitness really is, and, what it can do for your body.
Enter AIRbarre, a new type of suspension fitness created by Broadway aerial choreographer Christopher Harrison that involves traditional barre exercises performed in a hanging “hammock” of sorts. So what makes it unique? And, how can it help you get a dancer-worthy body? “This workout allows for a much wider range of movements than a stationary barre,” says Harrison. “A typical AIRbarre session includes plies, supported chorus line kicks, low-impact/high-cardio tug jumps, and our signature zero-compression inversions, and when you combine these exercises, it strengthens and lengthens your quads, hamstrings and hip and butt muscles, as well as your core.”
According to Harrison, you will feel results after your very first session, but the amount of toning you see will depend on how much “oomph” you put into your regimen. “It’s crazy fun and creative, and you don’t need to be a dancer to feel successful, but you can leave looking like one.”
