McKenzie Westmore may have found her calling in acting, but her latest endeavor, host of the SyFy channel’s hit series, “Face Off,” melds both her passion for being on-screen with her love for honoring her family legacy. “My dad is my hero and this is my way of honoring him,” she says. The Westmore name is embedded in Hollywood history—her grandfather and father pioneered makeup artistry, laying the foundation for makeup as an art form. They developed the science behind makeup application, all of which is still in use today. McKenzie took time to share some of her favorite beauty tips and products with NewBeauty.
What are some of your favorite makeup looks?
In general, I love a simple, clean cat eye. I love sheer, pale eyelids with thick liner and pink lips. As far as makeup looks on television, “Mad Men” is flawless and the Tim Burton challenge in season two was one of my favorites too.
What are some of the coolest beauty tricks you have ever learned?
The best remedy to get rid of puffiness under the eyes, either from age or even a late night (although you’ll need to plan ahead) is to take black tea bags and steep them for 10 minutes and then freeze them over night. Apply them to the under-eye area for 10 to 20 minutes with your feet up to help with circulation. If you need a quick skin tightener, whipped egg white applied to the skin will produce an instant lifting effect. You can put your foundation on right over that.
In your opinion, what’s the most common mistake that women make when applying makeup?
Not matching their face to the neck—it drives me crazy! Blend down to the chest even, especially if you’re wearing something low-cut.
What are some of your latest beauty product must-haves?
I’m really loving the Make Up For Ever Eye Pencils because they have the coolest palette of colors and can double as brow pencils. The YSL Touche Éclat is great for de-puffing eyes. Éminence Organics Skin Care Sun Defense Minerals are better than any cream SPF hands down. Physicians Formula Eye Definer Automatic Eye Pencil because it works to add a subtle white to the tables of the eyes that really makes them pop.
What beauty advice would you give to your younger self?
I would have to say to not stress about the little things. Not everything has to be an immediate right here and now. Some of the best things in life take time!
Look for McKenzie and some very unique makeup looks in the upcoming fourth season of “Face Off”—her father will be mentoring—this January on the SyFy channel. McKenzie reveals, “This season has some killer surprises in store.”
