Reviewing data about procedures carried out between 2001 and 2006, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons has determined that cosmetic surgery performed at accredited outpatient facilities is as safe as surgery performed at hospitals.
Highlighting research by the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities, the findings show that the rarity of death in accredited offices: a mere 0.002%. This is comparable to hospital-based mortality rates, with the vast majority of deaths being a result of a pulmonary embolism.
ASPS emphasizes that, while these findings confirm that accredited facilities are a very safe option, cosmetic surgery should still be treated with seriousness and caution.
