New data released today by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) reveals some surprising trends on the in-office-treatment front.

For one, the average number of nonsurgical procedures is growing every year. Overall, in-office skin treatments increased by 39 percent, fillers are up 13 percent since last year and neurotoxins (Botox Cosmetic, Dysport, Jeuveau, etc.) increased 12 percent in the last year alone. According to the Academy’s data, the neurotoxins category has seen the largest growth of all procedures with a 50 percent jump compared to its 2013’s numbers.

While the lessened downtime and quicker results make noninvasive and minimally-invasive treatments appealing, the cornerstone that is surgery isn’t going anywhere. Facial plastic surgery procedures are on the rise, in fact, seeing an increase of six percent last year compared to 2018. The most common surgical procedures performed by AAFPRS members in 2019 were rhinoplasty, facelifts (full and partial) and blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery). The number of facelifts performed in 2019 increased by 3 percent last year, while forehead lifts increased 6 percent in 2019 (from 13 percent in 2018 to 19 percent in 2019).
