A Sweet Treat That Won’t Affect Your Waistline featured image

It’s a cold, hard fact: Feelings of deprivation can sabotage even the best-laid out diet plan. You think you’re doing great—only munching on celery sticks and drinking copious amounts of green tea—then BAM. One bite of shared tiramisu at dinner and the next thing you know you’re rummaging through the freezer at midnight and heating up a bean burrito. Why does this happen? Easy. Deprivation causes you to eat anything and everything you can get your hands on, says Bonita Springs, FL, dietician Karyn Capozzo. When your body is deprived, it’s no longer mind over matter.

The best way to beat these ravenous feelings, is to indulge responsibly. Allowing yourself the ability to eat dessert, healthfully, will keep you from dusting off a whole plate of brownies. That’s why this summer, when apple pie and ice cream abounds, make smarter choices that still feel fulfilling. Don’t skip desert, but eat sweets that are packed with “good for you” ingredients that will satisfy your sugar cravings and give you the nutrition you need.

Wellness Guru David Kirsch has just the ticket with KIRSCH POPS, a frozen treat he created that won’t affect your waistline. Our favorite is the Fudge Pop (for obvious reasons) and he shared with us the recipe so you can make them at home.

Fudge Pop Recipe

1 oz. (or 6 small squares) of 70% Dark Chocolate
Dash of Sea Salt
1 packet of Chocolate Protein Plus
½ cup Almond Milk, unsweetened
½ cup nonfat Greek Yogurt

Preparing the chocolate:
Add chocolate to a heat-proof bowl.
Bring about an inch of water to a simmer in a saucepan. Set a heat-proof bowl over the saucepan, making sure it does not touch water. Let the chocolate melt, stirring occasionally. When almost totally melted, remove from the heat.
While still hot, add the sea salt.
Once it starts to cool, add the yogurt.

Preparing the Pop mix:
In a blender, mix together the almond milk and chocolate protein powder on a low speed. Add the melted chocolate mix and pulse to blend.
If using quick-freeze popsicle maker, leave in for no more than eight minutes.
