Although there is no definitive for cellulite, liposuction can offer some improvement because it eliminates fat. But it won’t necessarily eliminate cellulite and, in some cases, the results are not predictable.
During liposuction, a cannula is use to remove fat-not the cellulite itself. Once some of the excess fat is removed, the appearance of cellulite may be better since there are fewer fat cells.
Laser-assisted liposuction, like SmartLipo, uses laser energy to liquefy fat before it’s removed. Whether laser-assisted liposuction adds any cellulite-reducing benefits beyond what’s achieved with standard liposuction is controversial and unproven.
In order to further reduce cellulite, many plastic surgeons use fat injections after performing liposuction. The cellulite-prone areas are first treated with liposuction before they are grafted with your own fat. Filling in the depressed areas with fat prevents the skin from falling back in again.
