I’m a sucker for all things retro. And while I surely appreciate contemporary cosmetics with forward-thinking formulas, my fondness for all things vintage definitely applies to beauty as much as any other category.
So imagine my utter delight when I received a charming orange box containing a metal tube of Couto, a Portuguese toothpaste that’s been around since 1932. I instantly fell in love with the design, which hasn’t been changed since its debut, and I vowed to display it in my bathroom as decor. But then I remembered that it’s a celebrated toothpaste that actually performs a timeless service.
Couto is credited for changing Portuguese hygiene habits for the better in the mid 20th century, and its powerfully minty formula is still effective today. Thanks to peppermint, menthol and thymol, your teeth and gums get an intensive clean, and gums are kept clearly healthy.
I’m definitely going to need two: one to use, and one keep as a stylish centerpiece near my sink.
