As a beauty editor, I’ve come to learn that if there’s a single anti-aging must-have, it’s retinol. I’ve also learned that not all retinol is created equal. Some are more potent than others-formulated with different delivery systems that can influence effectiveness.
That’s why, when I came across SkinMedica‘s new Tri-Retinol Complex ES, which is touted as having the highest concentration of topical retinoids available without a prescription, I was excited to see for myself how this extra-strength anti-ager measured up.
Word around the office was that it was in a league of its own, containing three different forms of vitamin A. Although it sounded like the ideal triple threat, I was eager to see if it was, indeed, all that it was cracked up to be.
Bottom line: it was.
Featuring a unique patented gradual delivery system, called Microsponge, which releases retinoids over time as opposed to all at once, the cream didn’t irritate my skin, like most forms of retinol do. Instead, my skin reaped continual tone and texture benefits-including a reduction of lines and wrinkles, increased firmness, and the ongoing stimulation of collagen production.
I especially liked how the product made my skin feel. It came out in a light yellow formulation, leaving me wondering how it would look on my face. But, never one to disappoint, SkinMedica nailed it. Just a single pump went such a long way-rubbing in clear and odorless, just the way I like it.
Drying immediately upon application, it soaked right into my skin, creating a nourishing matte veil that not only protected my skin throughout the day but worked from deep within to improve elasticity and produce a youthful glow.
While it’s not my first time using a SkinMedica product, it’s definitely my last stop in the quest to fight skin aging. The only caveat? It works so well, I hope I don’t look underage by the time I’m done with it!
