I’ve always been diligent about using hair products that are right for my hair type. But the launch of the hip new haircare brand HerCut has made me rethink what I believed was a no-brainer.
Instead of-or at least in addition to-choosing products specifically for my thick, dry hair type, why wouldn’t I style my strands with a formula made for my haircut? HerCut asked the same question, and then answered it with their Catalyst collection.
The Catalyst formulas are currently available in five ‘do-determined varieties: The Pixie, The Shag, The Bob, The Blunt and the one I now swear by, The Long Layers. The dual-chamber bottle disperses a clear gel and a white cream that bring together a balanced, macromolecular blend of shape-perfecting polymers that wouldn’t work if stored together in the same compartment. But when the two textures meet in your palm and are activated by heat-from your body or blow dryer-they compel hair fibers to behave in such a way that your cut is optimized.
I was definitely skeptical about a styling product that claims to essentially “understand” my individual style, but after the first use, I was convinced that tiny hairstylists live in those two chambers. Even though I was due for a major touch-up, my style looked fresh, and my layer-obscuring frizz was smoothed into submission.
That said, it’s still wise to wash and condition with hair-type-specific products, which is why HerCut has covered every base with shampoos, conditioners and deep conditioners for normal, oily and dry hair. From start to finish, it’s the closest thing to personalized hair products I’ve ever seen or experienced!
