Massage has been shown to be better than medication or exercise for lower back pain relief, and now, scientists have found that it helps your cells recover post exercise as it spurs the production of new mitochondria. That means massage therapy as a treatment for injuries and chronic disorders could encourage more medical plans to pay for it in the future.
With exercise as one of the best ways to reverse muscle damage caused by common conditions including diabetes, obesity and aging, says Dr. Mark Tarnopolsky, MD, PhD, a researcher at McMaster University in Ontario, Canada, and lead author of the study, we will need massage in our active future, which is fine by us.
