A youthful face encompasses balanced features that are proportionate to one another. Overdone cheeks can throw your face off-balance and present an overdone appearance. Natural and balanced cheeks should be oval in shape, full and sit high on the face, tapering in.

In your 30s, the face is still full and features have not yet been affected. Your cheeks should be oval in shape and plump, but not too full, sitting high up on the cheekbone and tapering inward.
If you augment:
Do get minimal amounts of hyaluronic acid filler just on the cheekbone to give a bit more contour to the cheeks,
Don’t get injections if they’re not needed. If the volume that gives the cheeks their plumpness hasn’t begun to dissipate and is added, it throws off the proportions. “Adding volume on top of volume can make the cheeks look overdone and the face older than it is,” says Beverly Hills, CA, plastic surgeon Geoffrey R. Keyes.

In your 40s and beyond, aging becomes more apparent and rejuvenating procedures are key. In your cheeks, fat loss may be noticeable and the upper part of the cheeks may be flat and lack definition.
If you augment:
Do make sure only small amounts of filler or fat are injected in the front of the cheeks. “Even when fat is used, only two to three ccs are needed to give a nice, natural feed,” says Dr. Keyes.
Don’t opt for anything permanent unless your plastic surgeon feels that is the only option. Also, steer clear of implants. They can look too harsh and also come with the risk of asymmetry and poor positioning.
