I love hair masks. The after-shower steps that they involve feel so self-indulgent and utterly pampering that it’s almost like a spa ritual right in my own bathroom. Slather strands with the solution, wrap hair for ten minutes, watch some TV, wash out, emerge with healthier, more hydrated strands. Simply heaven.
Unfortunately, my hairdresser doesn’t feel the same way. The last time I saw her, her first comment was, “you’ve been using too many hair masks.” Her theory: Masks (when used too frequently) weigh the hair down, almost overconditioning them to the point of making your hair ‘heavy’ and greasy and leaving behind buildup. I may be able to lie to her about going to someone else to get my haircut, but there was no hiding behind this blatant truth: I had to cut back on my hair mask use-or find a superlightweight one that didn’t let her in on my secret.
Malin + Goetz Intensive Hair Mask came right to my rescue. Initially, the word “intensive” made me a little worried I’d be back to my baseline predicament, but the olive oil–rich formula left behind absolutely no residue and my strands seemed to literally soak it up in seconds, so there wasn’t a thick coating to wash off when it was done. It left my hair feeling hydrated and looking supershiny-even my hairdresser approved.
