We reported that synthetic snake venom is a popular beauty ingredient because of its ability to smooth wrinkles in a similar way that neurotoxins do (just not as immediate or long-lasting). That’s why our ears perked up when we heard that Sonya Dakar Skincare, one of the first companies to introduce the ingredient as MicroVenom in their products, launched a new anti-aging sunscreen line featuring it.
Sonya Dakar MicroVenom Daily Defense SPF 30 for Face ($45) and for Body ($57) both contain synthetic snake venom combined with apple stem cells that are known for their ability to repair and replace skin cells. Together with UVA and UVB broad spectrum protection, they keep your skin safe while also reversing signs of aging.
Both formulas are lightweight, smell fresh and soak in quickly without leaving a white residue. They also moisturize your skin and leave it feeling soft, so if you don’t normally need much hydration, you can probably skip applying moisturizer before using them. They do slightly tingle after application, but you won’t necessarily see your wrinkles disappear immediately. Your skin will feel plumper though, especially with use of the body formula since it contains tripeptides that help firm the skin.
