Let’s be honest, dieting is a pain. For those who want to shed some pounds without a strict diet, eating a smaller lunch might be the key to your weight-loss endeavor.
Opting for a lighter lunch a few days a week could cut back calories without leaving you hungry, Cornell University scientists say. They conducted an experiment, replacing volunteers’ normal lunches with store-bought portion-controlled items like Campbell’s Soup at Hand. The foods that the volunteers consumed throughout the rest of the day (including all other major meals and snacks) were not monitored. The results revealed that after 10 days of potion-controlled lunches, participants had 250 fewer calories per day than usual and on average lost about 1.1 pound.
According to the researchers, our bodies do not notice the small reduction in calories and therefore the volunteers did not experience extra hunger although they were consuming fewer calories during lunch than usual. Additionally, following a similar regimen all year long could result in losing at least 25 pounds. The scientists suggest that consuming fewer calories is a surefire way to stop the increase of obesity and trimming lunchtime calories is an easy and low-cost way to do so.
