A Cellulite Cure?

Who isn’t looking for a way to eliminate the lumps and bumps associated with cellulite. From creams to massage and body wraps, we’ve tried it all, only to be disappointed. But a recent study presented at the American Society of Plastic Surgery meeting in San Francisco demonstrates that injections of collagenase (the enzyme that breaks down collagen) may show promise for eliminating cellulite dimples.

Within one day after treatment, the participants saw a 77% reduction in dimpling, and results were still noticeable after six months. The only side effects were soreness, mild swelling and bruising at the injection sites, which dissipated within one to two weeks. Collagenase helps to break down fibrous tissue by dissolving collagen. Removing these anchoring fibers and breaking up enlarged fat cells seem to release the outer tissue, causing the skin to appear smoother. While these findings are exciting, the study only involved 10 women and lacked long-term follow-up, so further research is necessary to confirm results.
