With the way everyone clamored and cooed when the box was opened, you would’ve thought the most expensive, scientifically sophisticated beauty product ever made had arrived. But it was actually a few ingenious little pieces of plastic that had everyone so excited. Bumpits had arrived.
By now, you’ve surely seen the infomercial-esque spot for Bumpits, but if not, you should know that they are, in the brand’s words, “volumizing inserts.” They look like a double-decker headband, except the teeth are on the outside, so as to firmly grip the hair you place over it.
Despite our collective excitement, we were a little skeptical. A pouffed coiff runs the risk of looking either too pageant-y or too Amy-Winehouse-wannabe. But much to our delight, Bumpits-which come in four different colors for optimum inconspicuousness-can create a truly chic style that isn’t ostentatious or theatrical. As you can see from Marci, wearing the regular Bumpit on the right, and Erica, wearing the larger Hollywood Bumpit on the left, what used to take tons of teasing, hoards of hairspray and two extra hands is now a five-minute process that ends in a totally darling ‘do.
We especially like the look created by leaving half your hair down and pinning half of it back in a retro, Eva-Mendez-on-the-red-carpet style. And the Mini Bumpit, modeled by Brittany in the middle, is brilliant for the clipped-back bangs look-an absolute boon for those us in the growing-out phase.
No exaggerating-almost everyone who saw our little Bumpits photoshoot declared, “I want one!” For a product to wow a beauty magazine staff so unanimously is virtually miraculous!
