Listen, we believe you can conquer most beauty techniques. Maybe it’s your at-home mani/pedi, or you’ve finally learned how to wield a straightening iron like a pro-whatever it is, we’re proud of you. Unfortunately, there are still some beauty skills that take a little bit more work to master.
The almighty salon-worthy blowout is one of them. Enter Edward Tricomi, celebrity stylist and co-owner of the Warren-Tricomi salons throughout the nation, who shares how to fool everyone on the PTA into thinking you’ve been at the blow-dry bar all afternoon. “The secret to sleek, straight hair is having the right tools and products to create the look you want,” he says.
To get an ultra smooth, straight look, follow this step-by-step guide:
1. Start by towel-drying the hair to get all the moisture out. Make sure to pat, not rub your hair dry, as this might cause frizz.
2. Apply a lightweight, oil-free styling gel that resists humidity, calms strands and helps detangle hair to tame frizz and smooth flyaways.
3. Next, section hair and use the Warren-Tricomi Tension Brush ($40) to pull each section taught and straight as you blow-dry, aiming the heat from the nozzle down the hair cuticle.
4. After straightening each section, blast your strand with some cold air to add shine. Mist with shine spray as needed.
