First, it should be stated, that thin lips can be incredibly beautiful. Proof? Greta Garbo, Jodie Foster—to name a couple. However, when it comes to Hollywood these days where the pouts of Angelina Jolie and Scarlet Johansson reign supreme, a lot of women equate a full, plumped pout with sex appeal. This fact has many women who aren’t naturally born with big lips seeking permanent and non-permanent solutions for a fuller pout.

It has been reported that plastic surgeons have seen a major boost in women who want permanent silicone lip implants. Unlike hyaluronic-based injectable fillers in the lips, like Restylane, which lasts only a few months, the silicone implants are permanent. They tend to be popular among women who have tried temporary treatments, but have decided they don’t want to continue the upkeep and would rather have something long-lasting.

For women looking for the least permanent way to plump their pout, makeup can actually do wonders. Celebrity makeup artist Kristee Liu says it’s all about contouring the lips for a fuller visual effect. To do this, she says to start by applying concealer all over your lips. This will give you a good base to start with and help your lipstick, once applied, to last. Next, you want to choose a lip liner color in a light neutral pink shade and apply it to only your Cupid’s bow and the middle part of your bottom lip. Then take a darker lip liner color, about two shades darker in pink or plum, and line the rest of your lips (the outer corners) so the focus will be in the center. Finally take a lip brush and apply a neutral shade of lipstick, making sure to blend well the two lip liner shades together. You can then add a pop of nude gloss in the center of the lips for added punch.
