You know those youthful, bouncy cheeks we all crave? They’re a sign of healthy, abundant collagen. Located within the outermost layer of skin, collagen is the foundation of connective tissue that supports the skin’s structure. “Collagen is naturally found throughout the body,” says San Francisco facial plastic surgeon David W. Kim, MD. “It isn’t just in the skin. It is commonly found in muscles, tendons, the gastrointestinal tract, and even blood vessels.” Unfortunately, collagen depletes with age, but our diet can help. Luckily, there are many foods that boost collagen naturally.
Why You Might Be Lacking Collagen
“Collagen naturally decreases over time, so to minimize this, you want to think about healthy aging overall,” says Whitney Tingle, cofounder of Sakara Life. “Focus not only on how to protect your collagen, but also how to keep your whole body youthful, vibrant and healthy. This includes your skin.” Aging, sun damage, pollution, free radicals, and smoke are responsible for disintegrating collagen. But, Tingle says the top reason people don’t have enough collagen is poor diet. “Your body can’t make collagen if it doesn’t have the necessary elements. These include amino acids, vitamin C, zinc and copper,” she explains. “For most people, as they age, their gut also becomes compromised and doesn’t function properly. Therefore, it’s no longer able to absorb nutrients as well.”
How Your Diet Can Help Boost Collagen
“A diet built on fresh, organic plants will provide all the phytonutrients and plant fiber the body needs to thrive,” says Tingle. “It will also nourish and heal your gut. A happy, properly functioning gut is able to absorb all the wonderful nutrients your body needs to build collagen.”
While the body is constantly creating new collagen to repair what’s been damaged, the production process naturally begins to taper off around age 30, and the quality of collagen made is not as good as it was in years past. The good news? In addition to topical products and treatments, many foods have the power to naturally boost collagen in the skin. “I always work with whole foods first,” says Tammy Fender, holistic practitioner and founder of her eponymous skin-care brand. “I recommend adding fruits and vegetables to your diet that are eaten in their most natural state. That is, as close to raw as possible. The body thrives when we eat this way, and it shows in the skin as pure radiance.”
“Collagen supplementation for skin health currently has limited clinical data and further research is needed to elucidate its benefits,” says New York dermatologist Teresa Song, MD. “While specific supplements may not be recommended, a healthy diet with natural essential nutrients to support collagen synthesis can be beneficial for overall skin health.”
The Top Collagen-Boosting Foods
1/14
Protein(Meat and Eggs)
“Collagen is formed from 19 amino acids, which are the building blocks of protein,” says holistic nutritionist Jennifer Hanway. “Adding protein-rich foods into our diets provide us with the raw materials necessary for collagen production. Choose from high-quality animal proteins such as organic chicken, grass-fed beef and wild-caught salmon.”
Egg whites are a great option too. In addition to giving your body a dose of healthy protein that it needs, egg whites “are high in the amino acids—lysine and proline—that are needed to produce collagen in the body,” adds Dr. Kim.
2/14
Amino Acid–Rich Plants
“By eating a diet diverse in plant-rich ingredients, you will provide your body with an abundance of vitamins and minerals, as well as all the amino acids needed to form complete proteins—all the necessary elements to produce collagen,” says Tingle. “Some plants that contain all nine essential amino acids include quinoa, buckwheat, hemp seeds, chia seeds and spirulina.”
3/14
Dark Green Vegetables
Rich in vitamin C, dark green vegetables like spinach and kale can rev up collagen production. In topical products, “vitamin C has antioxidant properties that stabilize the messenger enzymes that break collagen down. It also protects against free radicals to prevent weak collagen,” says Orlando, FL dermatologist Dr. Dimitry Palceski.
Tingle says phytoceramides, a plant-based ceramide, can be thought of as a plant-based, vegan-friendly alternative to popular collagen supplements. “They can be found in spinach, among some other foods, and help restore the body’s natural lipids, helping to maintain the skin barrier, lock in moisture, plump fine lines, and fade acne scars while keeping pollutants out.”
4/14
Bone Broth
According to celebrity aesthetician Nerida Joy, bone broth can be a source of a collagen. The collagen is released from the beef, chicken or fish bones during the cooking process, which provides a collagen-rich liquid that can be used for sipping, or added to sauces. “I am a believer in organic whole food sources such as bone broth,” she says. “As its taste is not terribly pleasing, cooking with it or adding it to dressing helps add value and nourishment to a meal.”
Monroe, LA dermatologist Janine Hopkins, MD also often recommends bone broth. “Clean natural, foods high in antioxidants and lean protein are excellent choices for our skin,” she says. “Foods with a high glycemic index and processed sugar in particular are bad choices for our skin. Glycation is a metabolic process triggered by chronically high blood glucose levels that damages our collagen bundles. Excess glucose fibers in the skin triggers an internal reaction in which sugar molecules adhere to the collagen and elastin proteins, which normally help keep skin firm and supple.”
5/14
Vitamin C–Rich Fruits(Berries and Citrus)
Studies show that fruits that are rich in vitamin C like guava have the ability to help amino acids—lysine and proline—convert to collagen. “While there has been a lot of focus on animal-based foods that support collagen, including bone broth, we need to remember that vitamin C is also needed to synthesize collagen,” says Fender. “You can go to berries and citrus fruits for your vitamin C, but I love to recommend foods like broccoli, which is not only full of vitamin C, but also a wealth of other nutrients that benefit the whole body system.”
Antioxidant-rich vitamin C is also extremely important in helping to ward off free radicals that can lead to visible signs of skin aging. “Fruits like citrus, berries, kiwis and pineapples are high in vitamin C and can help to neutralize free radicals that break down both collagen and elastin,” adds Dr. Kim.
6/14
Fish
“Fish and shellfish contains omega 3 fatty acids, which reduces inflammation thats contributes to collagen breakdown,” says Dr. Song.
“Skin cells are surrounded by a fatty membrane that protects them,” says New York nutritionist Brook Alpert. “When the cells are healthy, they are able to support the structure of the skin. Fish like tuna and salmon are loaded with omega-3 fatty acid.”
7/14
Fermented Foods
Hanway says fermented foods such as tempeh, yoghurt, sauerkraut and kombucha contain Lactobacillus, a strain of probiotic bacteria that produces superoxide dismutase. “Superoxide dismutase is a powerful antioxidant that may prevent collagen breakdown by reducing the production of free radicals,” she explains. “Aim for one serving of fermented foods a day, and consider supplementing with a good quality probiotic.”
8/14
Red Vegetables
Tomatoes, peppers and beets contain the antioxidant lycopene that helps boost the body’s defense against sun damage. “Lycopene acts as a natural sunblock of sorts, protecting the skin from damage while increasing collagen levels,” says Alpert.
9/14
Green Tea
“In a 2010 study, researchers found that green tea consumption led to fewer tumors induced by UV light in mice,” says Kylie Bensley, MS, RD, clinical dietitian and founder of Sulinu. “This was due to a flavonoid compound found in both green and black tea known as EGCG. Another animal study on green tea found that it reduced skin damage from UVA light and protected against the decrease of collagen. Collagen is our body’s most abundant protein and it gives skin its integrity and firmness.”
10/14
Nuts and Seeds
“Many nuts and seeds contain essential minerals like zinc and copper, which are needed in the collagen production process,” says Dr. Song. Pumpkin seeds, cashews, sunflower seeds, flax seeds and almonds are good options to snack on. “Eating collagen-rich snacks like pumpkin and sunflower seeds are an easy and effective way to get in extra doses of collagen,” adds Bensley.
11/14
Orange Vegetables
Vegetables that are orange in color, like carrots and sweet potatoes, are rich in vitamin A and “can help restore and regenerate damaged collagen,” says Dr. Kim.
12/14
Soy
Whether sources from soy milk, cheese or tofu, soy contains genistein (plant hormones that serve as antioxidants), which prompts collagen production and helps to block enzymes, like MMPs that can age the skin.
13/14
Oysters
Hanway says copper, manganese and zinc are the three minerals that play a key factor in collagen production, and oysters are high in these minerals. Also chock-full of other nutrients, including iron and vitamin B12, oysters provide a low-calorie option and a long list of health benefits.
14/14
Garlic
One of the best sources of sulfur, which is necessary to collagen production in the body, garlic also provides lipoic acid and taurine that help rebuild collagen fibers that have been damaged.
Peptides are a pretty popular ingredient in skin care for good reason: They work. Steeped in science and solid data, the non-dubious powerhouses—think of these small proteins as the “building blocks” of skin—have the ability to reverse damage, and that’s just the beginning. This Fall, No7 is taking it a step further, introducing an exclusive peptide technology—the patent-pending Pepticology—that’s 15 years in the making.
As the name suggests, this is the range that will reverse and repair visible signs of skin damage, and the experts agree: We tapped into board-certified dermatologist Tess Mauricio, MD to explain how the technology works, why it can be tolerated by almost anyone, and how best to incorporate it into a regular skin-care routine.
Signs of Skin Damage
First, the bad news: Skin damage starts appearing in your 20s and continues to accelerate with age—especially without intervention.“Damage can be caused by environmental factors, such as prolonged sun exposure, pollution, extreme weather changes, as well as personal lifestyle choices like smoking and nutrition/diet,” explains Dr. Mauricio. “Early visible signs of damage like fine lines, wrinkles, and uneven tone and texture may start to appear in your 20s. Skin discoloration, such as dark spots or redness, can also start to develop during this decade. If you had acne in your teens, it might cause uneven skin tone. Skin damage during your 20s can lead to increased uneven skin tone and texture and dryness in your 30s and beyond.”
The Collagen + Elastin Connection
As we enter our 30s, collagen and elastin levels continue to decline, leading to a reduction in skin’s firmness and elasticity. How it appears: “You may start noticing fine lines on your forehead, around the eyes and mouth due to a decrease in collagen production and repeated facial expressions,” notes Dr. Mauricio, adding that, starting at age 30, skin might lose some of its “youthful radiance,” which can lead to a duller-looking complexion that’s potentially rougher in texture.
“In your 40s and without interventions, wrinkles become more pronounced, and you may notice them in areas like the forehead, between the brows, and around the mouth,” Dr. Mauricio says. “Loss of skin elasticity becomes more apparent, resulting in sagging skin, especially the cheeks, along the jawline and neck. With hormonal changes in your 40s, skin also tends to become drier and more prone to irritation.”
The Road to Reversal
It’s never too early to be thinking about visible signs of skin damage and Dr. Mauricio says she speaks to patients about skin-damage reversal at any and every age. The bottom line: “We know that by being proactive and by having a consistent skin-care routine, which consists of science backed–product formulations, advanced peptide technology and the daily use of sunscreen, we can reverse and prevent skin damage.”
Serum Smarts
Serums, like those from No7, are formulated to effectively deliver active ingredients, like peptides, to the skin due to their lightweight and highly concentrated nature, and Dr. Mauricio says she recommends that her patients use them. “I recommend applying serum onto clean skin before applying moisturizer. Unless you have a prescription topical for conditions like acne—which you should apply first after cleansing—serums should be applied first, then layer your under-eye product, followed by moisturizer and, of course, finish off with sunscreen during the day.”
Active Delivery
According to Dr. Mauricio, “Serums are designed for quick absorption, allowing the active ingredients to get to work rapidly without leaving a heavy or greasy residue on the skin. They are often specially formulated to address specific skin concerns. Peptide serums contain special peptides designed to boost collagen-depleted skin, reduce the appearance of wrinkles, or improve skin elasticity.”
The Building Blocks
Now, for the specifics on the power of peptides: “Peptides are short chains of amino acids, which are the building blocks of proteins. Collagen and elastin decrease, which are important skin proteins, decrease as early as in our 20s,” Dr. Mauricio explains. “In skin-care products, peptides are important because they can offer several benefits to the skin including boosting collagen-depleted skin, reducing the appearance of wrinkles, hydrating, and antioxidant properties as well as a skin barrier repair function.”
Doc Orders
As mentioned above, Dr. Mauricio typically recommends a serum, eye product and moisturizer for a basic skin-care regimen and she’s a fan of the new No7 for some specific reasons. “Future Renew Damage reversal products are science-backed and contain a world-first peptide technology, and helps to reverse visible signs of skin damage like fine lines, wrinkles, loss of firmness and elasticity, and uneven skin tone and texture in four weeks. I had the opportunity to personally review some of the key studies, consumer panel testing and clinical- trial results behind Future Renew prior to its launch. While I love using the entire line, my favorite product is the Future Renew Damage Reversal Serum because the special peptides effectively penetrate the skin, so we can achieve maximum results. I recommend applying the Future Renew Serum on clean skin and then layering the Night Cream, as evening is when the skin repairs itself most effectively.”
The Bottom Line: Skin damage can happen at any age, but innovative and cutting-edge products like the Future Renew line offers science-backed, data-driven solutions that are affordable and accessible for all.

Of U.S. adults, 88 percent have lost sleep due to staying up late to watch multiple episodes of a TV show or streaming series, according to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. If you can’t break the Netflix binge and all the other negatives associated with lack of sleep don’t faze you, consider these on-the-surface signs that doctors say they see the most.
“Cortisol levels rise with sleep deprivation, which can worsen inflammatory conditions and result in poor collagen deposition; blood flow to the face is increased during sleep and sleep deprivation can lead to a gray or ashen appearance; and eyes can appear swollen and red with dark circles.” —Newport Beach, CA plastic surgeon Sanjay Grover, MD
“Sleeping habits can have a profound effect on the appearance of the eyes, particular the lower eyelids. Patients will often notice that their ‘bags’ are worse in the morning. This is usually due to the lower eyelid fat holding on to water that gets worse when the individual is in a sleeping.” —Boca Raton, FL oculoplastic surgeon Steven Fagien, MD
“Not getting enough sleep is associated with increased stress, and under stress, we regress. That means that, in the short- term, your skin issues—acne, eczema, psoriasis, itching—will flare up. Chronic sleep deprivation can also translate into disruption of collagen pathways, more rapid skin aging and even reduced wound healing.” —Nanuet, NY dermatologist Heidi Waldorf, MD
“Lack of sleep is typically associated with lack of horizontal posture. This leads to redistribution of water volume where the feet and lower extremities swell and the face can experience volume loss. Even the hair can appear thinner and less volumized from retained sebum and loss of volume effect. Hollywood figured this out a long time ago—makeup artists are experts at reversing it.” —Spokane, WA dermatologist Wm. Philip Werschler, MD
Gold versus silver jewelry is an age-old debate. While it’s true that silver favors skin tones with cool undertones and gold works well on warmer complexions, you can usually get away with wearing both. But if you want to match your nail polish to your jewelry, you need to go back to the basics. “Always stay with the undertone of the color, be it your rings and necklaces or your nail polish,” says celebrity nail stylist Elle Gerstein. Matching your manicure to your signature pieces isn’t just chic, but it can also elevate your look when done right. Ahead, we spoke to three nail experts to get their tips for matching silver, gold, rose gold jewelry and multi-colored jewelry, plus polish recommendations.
Finding the right signature nail polish shade is sort of like nailing down your perfect foundation, being that you need to know about undertones. Silver jewelry, for example, is a cool-toned metal and works best with shades that feature similar characteristics. Soft blues, gray and white all have an icy feel that can bring out the metallic look of silver jewelry. However, they’re not the only hues that work. According to Amy Ling Lin, founder of Sundays Nail Salon, bold colors or those with pearl accents can be just as fitting.
Gold and rose gold have the opposite effect of silver and work best on warmer skin tones, such as olive, tan and deep complexions. These types of jewelry help bring out the golden undertones of the skin, and your nail polish should do the same. Warm tones and neutral colors are great options for gold, while rosy shades with hints of pink pair well with rose gold pieces.
This glossy blue falls in between a pale sky blue and periwinkle, making it ideal for silver jewelry. As founder of founder of Nails Inc. Thea Green explains, the watery undertones of the color harmonize well with the cool undertones of silver, adding just enough color to make your nails pop.
A pearly finish paired with pastel blue intensifies the icy look of your manicure. This shade has just a hint of iridescence that gives it a reflective appearance similar to your silver rings and necklace.
Classic red polishes add a bold pop to any look. This cherry-toned option with hints of blue provides a nice contrast while bringing out the cool undertones of silver.
The experts agree that spicy red-orange shades are some of the best for gold jewelry. This polish by Dazzle Dry has a creamy consistency that boosts the warm tones of your skin and the gold pieces you never leave home without.
If you want to go dark with gold jewelry, Green says a deep green, such as this olive hue, will be best. “The combination with rich gold pieces has a striking effect and gives you a luxurious look,” she says. For the best finish, be sure to add two layers of a glossy topcoat to enhance shine.
“A barely there nude polish is classy and has a subtle, timeless elegance just like gold rings or hoop earrings,” says Green. Though this shade is on the lighter side, it has a rosy undertone that keeps it from appearing washed out. Coincidently, that also makes it ideal for pairing with rose gold pieces.
Gerstein says that bronzy shades such as this can uplift the metallic tones of rose gold. She explains that the subtle contrast accents the metal to bring out its warmth while the hints of shimmer complement the rosy hue.
Multi-color jewelry can be tricky, but Green says the undertones rule still applies. This opal shade is a perfect example. It complements the metals without clashing or competing too much and has a shimmery finish that gives it a multi-prismatic effect.
Tweakments are not just for women anymore. As more men get into injectables, hair restoration and fine-tuning their physiques, one area that has come into sharper focus is the chest. We’re hearing that male breast reduction, also known as gynecomastia surgery, is becoming more popular, especially as the warmer months approach.

“As we head into summer, men and women start to realize that they will likely be revealing more of their body, and the spring is a time that many people think about body contouring,” says New York plastic surgeon Elie Levine, MD. “In addition, as minimally invasive options improve so much, I have the ability to profoundly change chest size and shape with a few tiny, barely noticeable incisions. This has piqued interest in my practice.”
It is not just about major changes either. Fitter patients are also looking to tweak specific areas that feel out of proportion. “Men have become more conscious of the potential of plastic surgery to address aesthetic concerns,” adds New York plastic surgeon Evan Garfein, MD. “Especially for men who are very fit, the presence of breast tissue, usually behind the nipple, can be uncomfortable.”
Image / Dr. Elie Levine This patient, 46, underwent bilateral male breast reduction with Dr. Levine using suction-assisted lipectomy and radio-frequency-assisted liposuction (RFAL), removing 500cc from each breast.
The Emotional Toll
Although patients often focus on physical changes, there’s an emotional side to gynecomastia that can run deep. “It is often hard for patients to open up to how difficult it is living with a less-than-ideal chest size and shape,” says Dr. Levine. “This is often something that people are living with from their teenage years, and each person finds the right time in their life to address it.”
Feeling uncomfortable in your body is not exclusive to female patients, says Dr. Garfein. “Often the way men and women express dissatisfaction with some part of their bodies is similar,” he notes. “Very often it is a comment around feeling uncomfortable with their bodies or being dissatisfied with a part of their physique.”
Choosing the Right Technique
For anyone considering the surgery, it’s important to know that the approach can vary depending on anatomy and goals. “There are times when the amount of breast skin and tissue requires a formal male breast reduction with more significant incisions,” says Dr. Levine. “However, the vast majority of my patients get outstanding results with a combination of radio frequency by BodyTite or QuantumRF and liposculpting. It creates dramatic improvement with minimal recovery.”
Dr. Garfein adds that surgical planning always starts with balance. “The techniques follow the principles,” he explains. “We aim to create a male chest that’s in harmony with the rest of the body. How we get there depends on how much excess skin, fat and breast tissue the patient has. A small amount of extra skin can often re-drape on its own after fat and tissue are removed. A larger amount may need to be excised. Fat can be liposuctioned. Breast tissue needs to be cut out.”
Recovery and Results
Recovery from male breast reduction is usually straightforward, with patients able to resume light activity within a few days. “The results are typically dramatic, amazing and the recovery seamless in most patients,” says Dr. Levine. “Even if people are not ready to embark on this journey, it is always valuable to come in and understand their options so that they can marinate until the time is right for them.”
Dr. Garfein adds, “Recovery is usually fairly quick with a couple of days of downtime and then about two weeks of soreness. I have patients in a snug compression garment for four weeks religiously. As far as results go, if they’re not happy, I failed.”

You wouldn’t lie on the beach without sunscreen, but what about a 20-minute drive across town? Most of us don’t think of driving as sun exposure, but experts say the UV rays coming through your car windows can have a visible, long-term impact, especially on the left side of your face.

Dr. Karan Lal is a board-certified dermatologist in Phoenix
“I see more sun damage on the driver’s side compared to the other side of the face. It’s shocking,” says Scottsdale, AZ dermatologist Dr. Karan Lal. “You’ll notice brown spots, red patches, fine lines and even skin cancer. Add in heat and side mirrors that offer almost no UV protection, and you’ve got a recipe for disaster.”
While most windshields block UVB rays (the kind that cause sunburn), UVA rays can still pass through the side and rear windows. And UVA rays are the ones that lead to deeper damage, like premature aging and skin cancer.
“I’ve seen patients with more pronounced sun damage on the left side of their face, neck and arms just from daily driving,” says Woodbury, NY oculoplastic surgeon David Schlessinger, MD. “This kind of damage builds up slowly, but it’s significant. The left side tells the story.”
How Sun Damage Accumulates
Experts say it’s incredibly common to see uneven sun damage on patients who spend years behind the wheel. “I see more melasma and skin cancer on the driver’s side,” says Dr. Lal. “Especially in men who drive often. Most of these patients don’t even realize it until the difference becomes noticeable.”
Monroe, LA dermatologist Janine Hopkins, MD adds, “I’ve had patients come in with more wrinkles, hyperpigmentation and pre-cancers like actinic keratoses on the left side. Pilots are another high-risk group. They spend hours at high altitudes where UV exposure is more intense, and they’re more prone to skin cancer as a result.”
Studies support what experts are seeing in practice, says Dr. Schlessinger. “There’s a well-documented higher rate of skin cancer on the left side of the face in the U.S. When we use our Visia skin analysis machine, the difference is striking, more brown spots, more wrinkles and more evidence of long-term sun damage on the driver’s side.”
What You Can Do
According to Dr. Lal, the best thing you can do is wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen every day, even for short drives. “Tinted windows help, but they’re not allowed in every state, and they’re not perfect. I always recommend sunscreen and a good antioxidant like vitamin C or E underneath.”
Mineral sunscreens with zinc or titanium formulas that can handle heat are best, says Dr. Schlessinger: “Tinted sunscreens with iron oxides are especially good for people dealing with pigmentation issues.”
Dr. Hopkins adds that a simple routine tweak, like keeping a UPF jacket or sleeve in your car, can make a big difference. “Put it on your arm before driving. It’s small but effective.”
“Many people are surprised when I tell them their daily drive is aging their face,” adds Dr. Hopkins. “But once they start paying attention, they can absolutely make changes that help.”

When a skin-care product earns a spot on vanities belonging to the likes of Hailey Bieber, Margot Robbie, Sandra Oh and Lily Aldridge, it’s worth a closer look. Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream ($305) has achieved cult status among A-listers and skin-care enthusiasts alike for one reason: it works.
Backed by science and beloved for its luxurious texture, this hydrating powerhouse is formulated to deeply nourish the skin while targeting concerns like redness, dryness, fine lines and uneven tone. In a recent survey,* we asked more than 1,300 NewBeauty readers to share their favorite skin-care products, and The Rich Cream stood out as a top pick among women of all ages with dry, sensitive and combination skin. Here’s what they had to say.
Why Readers Love The Rich Cream
A 59-year-old with sensitive skin calls it “luxurious” and says it “leaves the skin feeling supple and hydrated.” Another reader, 51 with dry, sensitive skin, says it “feels smooth and effective.” A 35-year-old with combination skin loves that it “addresses multiple concerns—redness, dryness and fine lines.”
What makes this moisturizer stand out across ages and skin types? Readers say it’s not just rich in texture but rich in performance. A 65-year-old with sensitive, combination skin says simply, “It actually works.” Another reader adds: “Omg. So luxurious and effective.”

“Mature ladies are my oeuvre. I love a menopausal icon and a peri-menopausal queen,” says celebrity facialist Lord Gavin McLeod-Valentine when I ask him if he has any skin-care tips for our beloved readers over 50. He’s sculpted the faces of many of your favorite Hollywood stars, including Zoe Saldaña, Kathryn Hahn and Emily Blunt, so trust us when we say he knows what he’s talking about.
“I would say the biggest foundational change when it comes to mature skin is the inability to hold onto hydration and a sense of volume loss or decline within the complexion,” says McLeod-Valentine. To combat this shift, he suggests using products with hyaluronic acid, squalane and glycerin—ingredients that will “impart the skin not with just a superficial glow but really build that checkings, savings and eventual trust fund of well-being and moisture within the complexion.” He recommends Augustinus Bader The Serum ($380), The Rich Cream ($305) or The Ultimate Soothing Cream ($305).
Using the right products and ingredients will help skin two-fold, says McLeod-Valentine. “It’s going to remove a sense of fatigue and ashiness from the skin, so it’s going to give more of a light bouncing ability to the complexion,” he explains. “In addition to that, the volumizing moisture is going to restore, to varying degrees but to real significance, the cheek plane and the puffiness of the lips and it’s going to minimize fine lines and wrinkles and give a look that’s more rested and alert.”
“I always say it’s not the absence of wrinkles or necessarily tone that gives the look of an aged appearance, it’s the lack of energy,” says McLeod-Valentine. “You can lift it, you can freeze it, you can fill it, you can fry it—done it all, but if you don’t address hydration and communication within the skin, you’re just not going to look younger.”
Teddi Mellencamp just shared some really positive news regarding her cancer journey. The 43-year-old Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum took to Instagram on April 23 to share that all of her tumors have “shrunk” following a three-year battle with melanoma (a form of skin cancer) that metastasized and spread to her brain and lungs.
“One update I couldn’t wait to share,” Mellencamp captioned the post. “All tumors stage 4 (metastasized melanoma in my brain and lungs) shrunk or disappeared so I have 6ish more weeks of immunotherapy and doctors believe I will be healed if everything stays on course. Thank you to everyone who has sent their love, prayers, and positivity.”
In the accompanying video, Mellencamp explains that, while her treatment isn’t over just yet—she has two more immunotherapy sessions—her doctors believe this to be a positive turning point in her journey. “I just finished with all my scans and my tumors have significantly shrunk, which doctors believe means that this all will work and that I will be back to myself and feeling good,” she says.
Mellencamp was diagnosed with stage 2 melanoma back in 2022, after having a mole removed from her back (her RHOBH co-star, Kyle Richards, is the one who initially told her to get the mole checked out). She’s had 17 surgeries to remove cancerous growths and has since become a spokesperson for the Melanoma Research Foundation while advocating for getting regular skin checks. Shortly after revealing that she hadn’t had to have a biopsy in “over two years” following regular doctor visits back in December, the reality star gave an emotional update via social media in February, sharing that she had to have emergency surgery for multiple tumors that were found on her brain. Her doctors discovered the tumors after she had been experiencing “debilitating headaches” for several weeks.
“Yesterday the pain was unbearable and required hospitalization,” she wrote on Instagram. “After a CT scan and MRI, doctors found multiple tumors on my brain, which they believe have been growing for at least six months.”
Mellencamp later revealed that more tumors were found on her lungs and heart following her surgery. In her most recent update regarding her tumors disappearing, she shared that she’s going to “keep a positive outlook,” because “that’s what my doctor just spoke to me.”
Walmart is on a mission to change the way its customers discover beauty products. The mega retailer kicked off its Spring Beauty Event on April 18, and with it, announced it will be placing specialized Beauty Bars in select stores nationwide. The Beauty Bars will allow customers to test samples and get product recommendations from beauty experts in person, and they’re expected to go live at 40 stores. Walmart made the announcement via a blog post shared to its corporate website this month.
“Our beauty customers are as diverse as the country itself—from teens just learning to care for their skin, to busy parents trying to do it all, to women navigating perimenopause and beyond,” wrote Walmart’s Vice President of Beauty Vinima K. Shekhar. “They’re savvy. They mix basics with premium. And they’re asking for more—more personalization, more transparency and more options that meet their needs, their budgets and their lives.”
Walmart first hinted at its plans to add Beauty Lounges to over 400 stores in partnership with Mayvenn Hair back in 2022, and the brand’s most recent move is likely part of a larger effort to compete with other huge beauty retailers like Sephora who are offering customers a similar shopping experience. Per Shekhar, the goal is for Walmart to become “the most trusted and accessible beauty destination for everyone, at every stage of life.”
“That’s what The Beauty Event is all about,” the post continues. “It’s a moment to explore, to indulge, to save—and to feel seen.” The Beauty Event is set to last throughout May with over 1,800 deals on products from beloved brands like Dyson, Olaplex, Sol de Janeiro, Bubble, and La Roche-Posay.
Hormonal changes during menopause can bring on a host of skin concerns—from dryness and dullness to sensitivity and unexpected breakouts. But one skin-care brand is standing out among women over 50 for addressing these concerns head-on: Stripes, the beauty brand founded by Naomi Watts and specifically formulated for menopausal skin.
In a recent survey,* we asked more than 1,300 NewBeauty readers to name their favorite skin-care product. A top response among women 50 and older? Stripes. Designed with hormonal shifts in mind, the line’s standout products—including the Evening Wear Night Cream and Dew As I Do Serum—are helping women reclaim their glow and feel good in their skin again.
What Readers Over 50 Are Saying About Stripes
The love is real. A 57-year-old with dry skin says the retinoid-infused Evening Wear moisturizer ($80) is “rich” and makes her skin “feel moisturized and glowy.” Another 55-year-old echoes the sentiment, sharing: “It feels so good when you put it on your face.”
For a 54-year-old with combination skin, the Dew As I Do Cream ($80), a brightening formula packed with vitamin C and ectoine, delivers immediate results: “[I love how] my skin looks after I apply,” she says.
One 55-year-old reader with peri-menopausal skin says Stripes was the game-changer she didn’t know she needed: “It’s the first product I’ve tried that completely moisturizes my skin without causing breakouts or leaving dry spots. I love it for my peri-menopausal skin!”
With rave reviews from women who’ve struggled to find solutions for hormonally affected skin, Stripes is proving that skin care can be empowering, effective and deeply nourishing at any age.

Growth factors are some of the best ingredients you can use in your skin-care routine, as their goal is to repair and rejuvenate. If your skin concerns include fine lines, wrinkles, loss of elasticity, and/or uneven tone and texture, growth factors can make a big impact when used consistently in the proper formulations. That’s where GO Beauty’s Modern Miracle EGF Serum comes in. This formula harnesses the power of potent epidermal growth factors (EGF) to address multiple skin issues at once. Here’s what makes this nighttime EGF serum a must-have for aging skin in need of a little extra TLC.
The Benefits of This EGF Serum
First, a little about GO Beauty for those who aren’t familiar. Founder Ramina Khachi was inspired by the beauty and self-care remedies of ancient Assyrian queens in Mesopotamia, circa 3000 BCE. These queens passed their knowledge down through generations, sharing their creative uses of natural ingredients that have ultimately helped shape our rituals today. Khachi’s mission is to combine the “time-tested ingredients of the past with the cutting-edge clinical science of today for optimal skin longevity.” In fact, she describes this nighttime EGF serum as “the ultimate in skin longevity.”
Fueled by powerful epidermal growth factors (EGF) and human growth factor (hGH), the serum’s primary benefit is its ability to help invigorate ad regenerate skin cells while you sleep. This is when the skin’s natural repair function kicks into high gear, so fueling that action can improve the look of skin damage from both UV exposure and the normal aging process. When we think of sun damage, dark spots immediately comes to mind, but there’s also a breakdown of collagen involved, which leads to wrinkles and sagging skin.
Probiotics are also in the mix to get the skin’s microbiome back on a healthy track, and fermented snail mucin provides a boost in moisture (it also has a bit of a calming effect if you have skin sensitivities). Brightening benefits come from arbutin, which blocks tyrosinase activity, leading to less melanin production in the skin. Don’t be surprised if you get compliments on your more youthful glow after using this serum for a couple weeks.
Before bed, after washing (and drying) your face, dispense a few drops in your hand and then press it into your skin, making sure to get your neck too. Follow with your night cream or other moisturizer.
Today may feel like an ordinary Friday for most, but for nail lovers everywhere, today is an extra special day: it’s National Mani/Pedi Day! Just in time to usher in the warmer weather and sandal-wearing season, National Mani/Pedi Day is here to help you get those nail inspiration gears turning and inspire you to create your running list of go-to manicure and pedicure colors for summer. If you need some help figuring out what shades to rock on your nails and your toes this sandal season, we’ve got you covered. Ahead, the best, celebrity-approved mani/pedi colors for summer.
8 Celebrity-Approved Manicure and Pedicure Colors
1 / 8
Cherry Red
Selena Gomez is one of our go-to nail inspirations, and this spring the singer has been seen sporting some juicy, cherry red manicures that lend themselves perfectly to a bright, sultry mani/pedi for summer. If you want to recreate Gomez’s red nail look to a T, all you need is Tom Bachik’s Click Colors Stiletto on Sunset ($16). For a non-gel option, try essie’s Not Red-y for Bed ($10)
Hailey Bieber is known for spearheading the glazed donut nail trend, but Vanessa Hudgens is to thank for bringing the trend back into the spotlight just in time for summer, debuting a classic glazed donut mani for Coachella. If you’re a neutral girlie, a classic nude glazed donut style à la essie’s Gilded Galaxy ($15) or Olive & June’s Frosted Glass ($9) is a great option for your sandal season mani/pedi.
All things lavender and lilac have been having a moment as of late, and when Hailey Bieber’s nail tech, Zola Ganzorigt declared “glazed taro” a can’t-miss spring and summer nail trend, we were sold. Toeing the line between lavender and lilac, taro shades like Olive & June’s Purple Puka ($9) and LONDONTOWN Lakur’s Honey Lavender ($16) are the ultimate pastel-meets-glazed-donut mani/pedi inspo.
If you have any summer weddings or other such extravaganzas planned this summer, take some inspiration from BLACKPINK’s Jennie Kim and try your hand (no pun intended) at a golden manicure/pedicure. Two to try: OPI’s SaTURN Me On ($12) or Chanel’s Le Vernis Phénix ($33).
Another summer mani/pedi inspiration from our resident nail it-girl, Selena Gomez, nail tech Tom Bachik solidified peach as a hit color for spring and summer with Gomez’s 2025 Oscars manicure, combining CND’s Rule Breaker ($17) and Silk Thread ($17) for a customized, shimmery pink look.
Nail trends seem to appear out of thin air and explode into viral sensations overnight (strawberry matcha nails, I’m looking at you). Don’t get me wrong, I love a new manicure look as much as the next person, but sometimes it feels more groundbreaking to remix a classic. Enter the multi-colored French manicure. It features the same contrasting tip and base design as the orginal, only with a mishmash of different shades. The best part is that there are no rules to making this trend work. Whether you like bold nail colors or softer shades, you can customize your mani to fit your desires. There’s even room to play with designs if nail art is your thing. Ahead, we’ve rounded up nine cool looks to help inspire you and get your creative juices flowing.

Rich gem tones
The beauty of this look is that it works year-round, even though the colors are rich. The key to getting it right is keeping the base as natural as possible and letting the rainbow of polishes speak for themselves.

Pastels and pearls
A pastel manicure for spring isn’t groundbreaking, but adding delicate pearls to each fingernail is. To get the full effect, use a blend of shades with the same soft feel and be sure to scatter the pearls randomly.

Skittle-colored French tips
Nothing says summer like neon nail polish. Instead of settling on just one shade for the tips, try blending complementary colors like cherry with orange or lemon with lime. The result is a punchy manicure that’s wearable and chic.

Dusky blues
Grayish tones help make this moody manicure stand out in a sea of classic French designs. While the combo works for any nail length and shape, a set of long almond nail extensions will amplify the contrast in the shades.

For years, black mascara has dominated the landscape, granted with a few moments for brown shades here and there. However, people have been getting creative with mascara over the past few months with bold colors and funky finishes. Spate recently revealed that data indicates the fastest-growing mascara products right now are burgundy mascara and glitter mascara.
Burgundy mascara
Charlotte Tilbury
According to Spate’s Popularity Index, burgundy mascara has skyrocketed across platforms compared to last year. More than 60 percent of the growth comes from Google search, which shows a spike of 455.8 percent year-over-year. On TikTok, the trend receives an average of 177.1K weekly views, which is up 355.2 percent over the past year.
For those craving an even bolder moment, there’s glitter mascara. Spate found that interest in glitter mascara has also surged, with a 296.7 percent spike across platforms as compared to last year. TikTok leads the charge, accounting for more than 83 percent of the popularity share, amounting to 428.4 percent growth year-over-year. Google searches have also climbed by 72.9 percent. There’s a variety of colors, from classic silver glitter to pops of pink or blue shimmer.
Keep those matte lippies in the drawer; high-gloss lips are here to stay. According to a 2025 SPATE report, “juicy lips” are trending big, with searches for the term up 51.8 percent year-over-year. “We’ve been seeing a shift to more of a glossy lip finish because that ultimately helps to give the lips that plump and fuller look,” says celebrity makeup artist Neil Scibelli. “The juicy lip look is all about leaning into those feel-good formulas that not only give that high shine and color payoff, but also hydrate and plump the lips with skin-care ingredients.” Here, our favorite products to get the trending “juicy lips” look.
The OG that paved the way for the juicy lip category, this iconic lip gloss launched in 2000 and became the “it girl” accessory, with 20 tubes selling every minute in the U.S. It comes in 10 shades and gets top marks for its ultra-glossy finish and slightly sticky texture (a little goes a long way) that fans love.
For a fruity taste, try this super shiny lip gloss, which comes in five fragrance and color combos, from clear lychee to berry-tinted pomegranate. And at just $3, you can try all five for less than the price of some other options by themselves.
If you want maximum color payoff and mirror-like shine, this gloss-meets-lipstick is the way to go, and comes in eight flattering shades. Infused with 41-percent conditioning oils, you can feel the difference in hydration, even after you take it off.
A crowd pleaser that comes in a super impressive 41 shades, this balm-gloss hybrid sells every six seconds! Packed with more than 10 antioxidant-rich fruits (including the brand’s signature, moisturizing maracuja oil), it gives you juicy lips in one quick swipe.
Making its debut at the Valentino Fall/Winter 2025 show at Paris Fashion Week earlier this month, this gorgeously glossy lip oil contains the brand’s exclusive Puffer Complex, which lends an instant plumping effect. Available in seven shades, it also hydrates and nourishes with hyaluronic acid, ceramides and a vitamin E derivative.
Chock-full of skin-care ingredients like ceramides and peptides to plump and botanical oils to moisturize, this minty oil comes in six shades and gives lips a plush, juicy look with a sheer hint of color. And who doesn’t love the oversized doe foot applicator?
These craveable lippies—the new Strawberry ones are so delicious (let’s be real, all the flavors are)—give lips the perfect juicy look. Shea butter and rosehip oil leave lips feeling cushioned and cared for, while Maxi-Lip provides clinically proven plumping.
Available in seven shiny shades, this cute little lip oil is infused with fruit extracts to nourish dry lips (you get a little fruity flavor, too). Keep it in your purse for “glass lips” on the go.
Nowadays, it feels like almost every celebrity has their own beauty brand, so it’s not often that a non-celebrity-affiliated brand garners as much organic love and support from A-listers as the viral K-beauty brand Medicube has. Known for its glass-skin creating formulas and its iconic absorption-enhancing booster tool, Medicube has not only amassed a cult following amongst skin-care junkies, but amongst celebrities too, from Kylie Jenner to Kyle Richards, Hailey Bieber and even the Duchess of Sussex. If you want to dive into the world of Korean beauty with Medicube, we rounded up the most celeb-loved Medicube products to get you started.
Earlier this year, beauty influencer Alix Earle took followers along with her on a trip to her dermatologist’s office to update her skin-care routine, and on the list of her derm-recommended products was none other than Medicube’s Zero Pore Pads. Since the TikTok aired, the pads have blown up across social media, with thousands of users praising the product’s oil-removing, pore-minimizing, texture-smoothing properties.
Back in February, Bravo star Kyle Richards sang her praises for Medicube’s OG facial too, the Age-R Booster-H. “I am loving—and everyone that I’ve shared this with is loving—the Medicube Booster tool,” Richards said in her Amazon Live. “I love it guys, and it works. It reduces pore size, fine lines and helps push the product in.” Hailey Bieber also included the product in a Vogue “Beauty Secrets” video back in 2023, using the device to enhance the absorption of her favorite Rhode staples.
A recent addition to the celeb Medicube fan club, just this month, Kylie Jenner took to TikTok to share the products she loves most from the K-beauty brand, highlighting the brand’s innovative PDRN Pink Peptide Serum as a key ingredient in creating that coveted glass-skin look.
In her glass-skin routine TikTok, Jenner also shared her love of the next-gen Medicube facial tool, the Booster Pro. “It’s like an all-in-one facial tool,” Jenner said of the customizable LED facial device. “It helps absorb the skin care, irons out fine lines and wrinkles, it gives me a good contour and minimizes my pores.” I mean, need she say more?
On Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle’s newly-launched ShopMy site, fans can browse all the beauty and lifestyle products the royal uses most, which includes none other than Medicube’s Collagen Jelly Cream. Infused with freeze-dried hydrolyzed collagen and niacinamide, the jelly-like cream helps improve elasticity and strengthen the skin’s barrier, making it a royally good choice.
I’ll admit—back in my teen and tween years, I did some objectively cringe-worthy things to my skin, and I know I’m not alone. From self-made face masks to abrasive astringent pads and, of course, the elusive pore strips, I’d tried it all. While most of my skin-care experiments have (thankfully) stayed in the past, pore strips are the one trend I’ve noticed creeping back onto the scene. But these are not the hardening, waxing-your-nose-adjacent peel-off strips of our collective tweenhood.
I’m pretty much Personal Day’s number one fan, and its newly launched, innovative pore strips are what got me back into the trend in the first place. Instead of hardening on the nose and requiring a lot of brute force to peel off, Personal Day’s nose strips use “nanotechnology to bring a powerful blend of ingredients deep into your pores, melting the dirt and oil that make up blackheads.” The strips are wet and don’t dry—you simply apply to your nose for five to 10 minutes, remove and use the provided extractor tool to easily and painlessly pop out any buildup.
Even the OG pore strips of the early aughts have undergone some major upgrades and garnered celebrity approval along the way. Ahead of the Super Bowl this year, influencer Olivia Culpo shouted out Bioré’s Original Deep Cleansing Pore Strips as a must-have. With over 60,000 five-star reviews and a new pack sold every 12 minutes, Bioré’s Deep Cleansing Pore Strips are the definition of a cult-classic, and are even known to reduce the look of visible pores with continued use.
Megan Fox’s makeup artist first turned me onto Peace Out Skincare, and its pore-minimizing and clearing products instantly became a favorite. The brand’s oil-absorbing strips are formulated with brand-new, clean hydrocolloid technology and pore-refining actives that work to minimize the appearance of enlarged pores while removing any unwanted gunk along the way.
Formulated to be safe and gentle on skin while providing real results in just six hours, Peach Slices’ Nose Pore Patches are medical-grade pore strips that absorb oil and impurities while tightening the appearance of pores, all without sticky residue or uncomfortable removal.
Beloved by beauty gurus like Alix Earle, Hero Comsetics’ pimple and skin patches have pretty much revolutionized the patch product industry. Its Mighty Patch Nose is no exception, turning white like a traditional pimple patch as the gunk emerges from pores to reveal clearer-looking skin in as little as six hours.
Harnessing the power of niacinamide, salicylic acid, tea tree and vitamin C, Zitsticka’s GOO GETTER pore strips not only pull out excess oil and impurities from the skin but also revitalize skin after extraction for a visibly clearer and brighter complexion with each use.
Do you want an insta-lift? We’re way passed the age of stuffing our bras, and thank goodness for that. If you struggle with strapless bras and want a no-seam shape, there’s an actual product designed to give you the volume and support you’ve been craving. Introducing boob tape, the stylist-approved way to lift and shape that’s perfect for your backless dress, bikini season and strapless looks!
What is boob tape?
A favorite fashion accessory of stylists everywhere, boob tape, or breast tape, is a product that offers lift and support without a bra. Personal stylist and host of the podcast Fashion Crimes, Holly Katz, explains that the easiest way to think of breast tape is “duct tape, but specifically for the breast.”
As part of a stylists kit or a night-out hack, boob tape doesn’t just offer lift, but shape.
“We’ve evolved from using what people used to call ‘chicken cutlets,’ which were silicone padding that you’d put in your bra for an instant lift, to now using breast tape,” she explains. “And the main appeal is that you can sculpt and offer support without worrying about how your shoulders or back look. It avoids that digging-in look you can get with a bra.”
How do you use boob tape?
“If you’ve ever been to a professional bra fitting, using boob tape is a lot like that,” Katz says. There are several different ways to apply the tape, but Katz recommends bending over and gathering all your breast tissue together before taping upwards. “That way your breasts are on the inside frame of your body and not pointing out towards your armpit or straight up.”
Once your foundation is built, just add as much tape as you need to feel supported. Larger breasts may opt for more tape or a wider roll for better coverage and lift.
“I think any breast size can get the hang of this as long as they’re okay with watching a few videos and practicing before the night of your event,” Katz notes. “And if your breasts are sensitive, nipple covers are a good idea.”
But that doesn’t mean absolutely anyone can wear boob tape comfortably, though.
“If you have very sensitive skin, I don’t necessarily think that you should be using boob tape, even for just a night out,” Katz says.
Sweat-proof and available in four shades, Nue offers latex-free tape designed to move with you without peeling off during the day. Perfect for a night out, this roll offers an easily customizable look, easy to cut strips and it’s even easy to remove!
Created as an alternative to harsh duct tape, Brassy Bra is all about delivering invisible support when you need it most. With heat-activated adhesive, this bra isn’t going anywhere!
You don’t have to be transgender to love this product! Designed for everyday wear, these waterproof tapes are available in different skin tones, fun colors and even tattoo designs, and offer a seriously comfortable wear perfect for sensitive skin.
While Hollywood swirls with not-so-silent speculation of stars in their 30s and 40s getting facelifts, doctors like Nashville, TN plastic surgeon Daniel Hatef, MD, aren’t all that surprised.
While the average facelift patient age at his practice is in the 53 to 54 range, he now has a lot more patients in their 40s inquiring about the surgery, and he sees some clear advantages with that shift.
“I think that the best part of doing a facelift at a younger age is that we can move the soft tissues to the optimal position without creating dramatic, obvious or unfixable distortions adjacent to the area of fixation,” Dr. Hatef explains. “In a 55-year-old patient with severe nasolabial folds, if I correct that to its optimal position, the patient will have ridging and convexities at the temple, and it will distort the lower eyelid shape. In a fortysomething-year-old patient, that does not happen.”
It’s the tissue factor that Encino, CA, plastic surgeon George Sanders, MD, also specifically calls out. While he stresses that there is no “ideal age for a facelift,” he does point out that considering the quality of the patient’s tissue is key when discussing a facelift. “If the tissues cannot hold the suspension that we achieve with surgery, the results are going to be disappointing,” he says. “If the patient is young, they may also be well-served by a more limited facial lift, as opposed to the traditional facelift.”
Also on the benefit list, according to Dr. Sanders, is improved recovery. “There are definitely benefits to having surgery done at a younger age. These would include things such as stronger tissues that hold the lift better, a more rapid recovery and a less dramatic change with the operation that allows one to never appear as though surgery was done. Also, the younger you are when you have the surgery done, the longer you’re going to have to enjoy the results!”
It’s that quicker recovery, coupled with less emphasis on “reversal,” that New York facial plastic surgeon Konstantin Vasyukevich, MD, likes as well.
“One of the main benefits of having a facelift at a younger age is the ability to address early signs of aging before they become more pronounced,” he says. “It’s less about reversing the clock and more about maintaining a youthful appearance over time. When a facelift is done before significant laxity sets in, the results tend to be more natural, more subtle and longer-lasting. Recovery is often quicker, and the skin responds better to repositioning. Younger patients often say they don’t want a dramatic change, just to look like a fresher version of themselves. It also allows them to avoid spending excess time and money on temporary treatments that ultimately fall short of what they’re looking for.”
Plus, Dr. Vasyukevich stresses that subtle is always in style, and can tie back to your age.
“In the past, it was more common to see patients starting in their 50s and 60s. Now we’re seeing more individuals in their 30s and early to mid-40s who are choosing to address early aging before it progresses. Many don’t see the point in waiting until the signs of aging are more advanced. They’d rather make a subtle, meaningful change now and enjoy the benefits in real time instead of playing catch-up later.”
Regardless of timing, Dr. Vasyukevich is quick to say he also does not believe there’s a “one-size-fits-all age” for a facelift. “It depends on the individual’s anatomy, genetics and goals. The ‘sweet spot’ for many tends to be when the first noticeable signs of aging begin to set in, but skin elasticity is still relatively good. As far as [being] too young, if someone has minimal signs of aging or is primarily influenced by trends or external pressure, that’s when I’d recommend waiting or exploring less-invasive options first.”
Similarly, Dr. Sanders sees many younger patients come through his door who ask for facial lifting, but that doesn’t automatically equate to a traditional facelift.
“Many times, what they need is not a facelift, but something that involves less than a full facelift, or even a non-surgical option such as fillers, non-surgical skin tightening, etc.,” he says. “On the other hand, sometimes even a young patient is asking for improvement of the cheek, jawline and neck that can only be achieved with a facelift.”
Case in point, Dr. Sanders says: “If the patient has a problem that is going to respond well to a facelift, I don’t think that there is a minimum age. In the same way, I don’t believe that there is a maximum age, assuming the patient is in good health and has realistic expectations. I had a patient several years ago who was 100 years old when she underwent a facelift. She was thrilled with the results and went back to chopping wood afterward!”
The bottom line, stresses La Jolla, CA plastic surgeon Robert Singer, MD: “The best time to fix something is when it bothers you,” he says. “There’s no universal procedure and no universal age, and what you gain from a facelift isn’t lost as time goes on.”

We’re knee-deep in wedding season, and the manicure plays an essential part in the big day. The season calls for some of the most elegant looks in nail art, and all signs point to lace nails as the top contender. Quickly becoming a major bridal trend, lace nails can be easily customized to match your dress or serve as a luxe stand-out design. Whether you’re looking for subtle hints of florals or an eye-catching lace look, there’s no shortage of gorgeous inspiration.
Bridal Season Calls for Lace Nails
With the engagement mani becoming a major trend, it’s no surprise to see just as much attention on the bridal nail set. Wedding day nails can range from super sleek and minimal to elaborate and decorative, but the nails will likely be white or off-white in color. That’s one reason lace nails are an easy go-to for a bridal look. Whether you’re looking for a clean white lace or a more antique shade, these floral designs are right at home on a classic nude polish.
Additionally, lace can easily serve as a way to add visual interest to a simple manicure. A border around a French nail makes the look more dainty and delicate, while a larger, more free-hand floral might appeal to a more boho bride. No matter what you choose, lace nails add an element of class and sophistication that can bring your whole bridal look together.

It’s the summer of Tinx. The influencer turned author and LA resident turned New Yorker is making a splash this season with her first fiction book, Hotter in the Hamptons, debuting May 6. She’s in high demand, whether that’s attending the Ralph Lauren fashion show or partnering with a brand she loves. To honor the beautiful rituals of shaving and shower beers, Tinx teamed up with Flamingo and Talea (who crafted a beer just for the shower). We caught up with the 34-year-old ahead of her whirlwind summer about all things rich mom starter packs, beauty must-haves, advice for your 30s, her new book and more.
What is your everything shower routine?
“Obviously, you need a cold beer. There’s something about the hot water with the cold beer, and it’s just chef’s kiss. For me, I have to have music on. It’s just such a key element of a shower. I cannot believe that people shower in silence like I could never. Even if it wasn’t an everything shower, I have to turn on a little bit of music just because I hate the sound of my own voice in my head and the thoughts and voices.
Obviously, I love to shave my legs with my Flamingo razor ($12). It really does give me a sense of calm. I have laser on my armpits and my vajayjay, which is a shame, because apparently, now the bush is back, but the legs, they need the razor. I am a bit of a product junkie. I’m always trying new things. You should see my shower—it’s chock full of all the products. I love everything, but there are also some classics. I love body washes. I have so many that I try, but they’re more for fun. A fun fact about me is that I don’t feel clean unless I’ve washed my body with a Dove Beauty Bar ($22). It’s just so nostalgic, and I love it.”
Are you a morning or night shower person?
“Now that I’ve moved to New York, I do both because you can’t get in your bed without showering like it’s illegal. I love a morning shower to wake up, but now I’m like a two-a-day girl, which we love because it just means I’m squeaky clean.”
How does living in New York compare to California?
“I mean, I love New York. I love the energy, I love the people, I love the nightlife. So far, so good. It’s definitely a completely different vibe, but I’m absolutely loving it.”
Your rich mom starter pack videos went viral years ago. What beauty products do you think would be part of a rich mom starter pack now?
“Well, a flamingo razor, obviously. I think a U Beauty Plasma Lip Compound ($68)—it’s so good, it’s just actually the best. I think Tatcha Dewy Skin Cream ($72) is literally the best base for any makeup—it’s so phenomenal. I think Killian perfume, maybe like an Angel Share ($255) moment, and I think Crown Affair hair products.”
I’m 29, so as “TikTok’s older sister,” what is your advice to women entering their 30s? What lessons did you learn from your 20s?
“I was so afraid of my 30s, and then when I turned 30, my life actually started, and from what I hear, it just keeps getting better and better, and that is so encouraging to hear. I truly think that your 30s are a time where you stop caring so much about what you should be doing and what people think about you, and you start just coming into your own.
It’s the decade where you really learn about boundaries for yourself, your friendships and your relationships. I think it’s where you start to learn what you like and what you don’t like, and how to say yes and no. I have had the best time in my 30s so far. Obviously, your 20s are incredible. The highs are so high, but the lows are so low, and the 30s just feel a little bit more controlled and less chaotic. You have so much to look forward to. I’m so excited for you. You’ll love it. It’s truly great.”
I’ve always wanted to write a novel, I’m working on one now, so I’d love to know what made you want to write one and where the idea came from.
“So I would always do the mini rich mom characters on my Instagram and create stories for these women. When I wake up, I try to write whatever comes into my head, and more often than not, back then, it was a rich mom character. I loved that and the creativity of it.
This is obviously a little bit of a spicy novel, and I was inspired by my community, first and foremost, because I’m always talking to them, and they had some questions about the type of erotica to consume and what’s ‘normal’ and what’s not, and that was also really inspiring to me.
I just wanted to do something that was kind of light and fun and silly. I love the intensity of my relationship with my community, but I think it’s so fun to do something that’s fiction and creative and light and summery. It’s something that feels separate from me, almost.”
A spritz of perfume is undoubtedly one of the easiest ways to transform your mood and vibe. This summer, let a scent that exudes casual confidence set the tone of the season—enter Jones Road BKLN ($42). The brand’s newest fragrance imitates that untouchable feeling of wearing your favorite pair of vintage jeans—effortlessly cool, without feeling overdone.
As a Brooklyn resident, I can tell you that the only perfume worth wearing is one with staying power, whether walking miles on busy city streets, or as spontaneous days turn into unforgettable nights. Mixing lemon, neroli, sandalwood and black pepper, BKLYN is a scent that’s ready for anything.
“BKLYN is everything I love about the borough,” says Jones Road founder Bobbi Brown. “It’s cool without trying, sophisticated without being stuffy and completely authentic. It’s the fragrance equivalent of your favorite lived-in jeans or that perfect white shirt—it just works, no matter what.”
Fans who can’t wait to try the casually cool BKLYN can snag a bottle in its original lab packaging for now. Once the limited window closes, shoppers will have to wait until later this year for a relaunch in its official packaging, so we don’t recommend hesitating. BKLYN is sold exclusively online at JonesRoadBeauty.com and all Jones Road Beauty store locations.
When I set out to write about the best face serums for specific skin types, i.e., oily, dry, mature, etc., I assumed dermatologists would recommend several different options. Turns out, choosing a skin serum isn’t as complicated as I thought. Two board-certified dermatologists agree that a skin serum packed with antioxidants is the key to visible results. Below, more on what to look for, a cheat sheet to which active ingredients work for specific skin and the serum they recommend overall.
Nina Hartman, MD, is a board-certified dermatologist in Washington
Is skin serum even necessary?
“Face serums may not be necessary for everyone,” explains Washington dermatologist Nina Hartman, MD. “A face serum simply refers to the vehicle in which a certain ingredient is delivered to the skin. Other examples of vehicles in topical skincare products include cream, lotion, oil, gel, solution, etc. ‘Serum’ describes a lightweight, highly concentrated skin-care product that is efficacious at delivering active ingredients directly to the deeper layers of the skin.”
Houston dermatologist Jennifer Segal, MD, agrees. “I don’t think serums are truly necessary unless there is an active or dry conditions where extra moisturizing is needed.”
But if you do decide to use a skin serum, where should you start?
Selecting the Right Skin Serum
The first step, says Dr. Hartman, is to consult with a board-certified dermatologist regarding exactly what type and what brand is best for you. This can help you sort through products with evidence-based data behind its efficacy, especially given the number of choices on the market now, rather than spending a small fortune and risking your skin’s health.
For dry or sensitive skin, Dr. Hartman recommends a hyaluronic acid serum. If skin is oily or acne-prone, adding a retinol and/or alpha- and beta-hydroxy acids can help keep sebum and breakouts at bay. For inflammation and redness, look for serums rich in niacinamide; for discoloration, vitamin C is the gold standard. If aging skin and wrinkles are concerns, Dr. Hartman suggests serums with retinol, peptides, growth factors or exosomes.
Derms Overall Favorite Skin Serum
If you’re looking for which kind of serum will deliver the biggest benefits to your skin, no matter the type, both Dr. Hartman and Dr. Segal praise one specific antioxidant serum overall: vitamin C.
“My favorite facial serum is vitamin C serum. It helps even and brighten skin tone. It can build collagen and elastin. Most importantly, it is a powerful antioxidant that protects the skin from free radicals and other pollutants to prevent aging [and] skin damage,” explains Dr. Hartman.
Dr. Segal says SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic ($182) is her overall favorite skin serum because its 15 percent pure vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid) boosts protection against UV damage. Combining vitamin C with other antioxidants (like ferulic acid and vitamin E in this formula) enhances its delivery to the skin, leading to better results, as NewBeauty editor Allie Hogan previously reported here.
Curly-haired icon Andie MacDowell switched up her normal style this week, opting for a super sleek blowout while attending Hallmark Channel’s The Way Home Season 3 Emmys FYC Screening and Panel in Los Angeles. And we have all the insider glam secrets to getting the style.
“On damp hair, I used L’Oréal Tecni.Art Liss Control ($32) to help with controlling frizz and Transformer Lotion ($32) to help with smoothing out Andie’s hair for the blowout,” shares celebrity hairstylist Marcus Francis. “To create bouncy waves, after the blowout and iron work, I used a small amount of the Liss Control to seal the ends. Then, I sprayed with Tecni.Art infinium 3 hairspray ($32) to lock in the texture and shape.”
While there was some speculation swirling around that MacDowell may have colored her gray locks, Francis says any color shift was all thanks to the mega-watt shine.
“The light reflects on straight hair differently, so it picked up on all those pieces at the nape that haven’t turned silver yet,” he says. “She stopped coloring her hair five years ago when she decided to let the gray come out back at the start of COVID.”
It’s a move the actress told us about in her 2024 cover shoot that she wishes she had done earlier.
”To be honest, I wanted to let it go gray earlier, but I was afraid,” MacDowell said. “I finally got the courage during COVID when I saw it with my eyes and my skin color. Once it was growing out, I could see what the color was going to be like, and I really loved it. I knew it was time. For me, it’s fascinating that it’s such a curiosity and interest to people. I think also, it’s important to stop and think about that interest and curiosity— because it wouldn’t happen if I was a man. It happens because I’m a woman. We have to look at that. We have to look at why there’s interest in me having silver hair, because if I were a man, there would be no question I had silver hair, right?”
While the interest around her hair color may be perplexing, MacDowell did admit she’s a big fan of the silver shade. “I’m lucky. I think it’s a really good shade. Just the other day, someone asked me where I got my hair color, which was interesting. I told them, ‘I don’t color my hair.’ They said, ‘It looks like that?’ I said, ‘Yes, that’s what it looks like!’”
A flattering bronzer is a makeup-bag staple, but finding one that doesn’t settle into fine lines or look muddy on mature skin can be tricky. The best formulas for aging complexions are hydrating, blendable and provide a natural-looking warmth without emphasizing texture. From glow-boosting liquids to silky powders, these bronzers bring the sun, no filter required.
Whether worn alone for an all-over wash of summer color, tapped onto cheekbones for a sculpted look, or mixed with moisturizer for a subtle bronze, there’s no messing up this instant classic.
If you’re after a dewy, buildable glow, this one’s for you. The doe-foot applicator allows for precise placement—just blend with your fingers or a brush.
Cheers—raise a glass of bubbling Veuve Clicquot—we made it to spring. What better way to celebrate warmer weather and golden sunshine than a hair refresh? As for trends, experts see champagne highlights on the horizon. Hair colorist Erin Dunn notes that she is often asked for this color in the salon. If you want your hair to match your bubbly with soft gold and beige tones, we have all the expert advice you need.
Richy Kandasamy is a colorist and Vice President Color Development and R+COLOR Collective Member
What are champagne highlights?
“Think golden hour in a glass—champagne highlights are all about radiance, elegance and effortless glow,” says Dunn. “Soft golden tones kissed with a hint of beige (just like actual bubbly) create a luminous, dimensional blonde that feels elevated without tipping into icy territory.”
Colorist Richy Kandasmy describes champagne highlights as refined and beautifully balanced with a mix of soft beige and pale gold that reflect the light in a very sophisticated way. “It’s not an overly warm or cool blonde—it’s that perfect neutral that feels luxurious and effortless.”

Who should try champagne highlights?
According to Dunn, champagne highlights can be ideal for anyone looking to achieve a natural, sunlit vibe. “Soft creamy hues add warmth and sophistication while keeping the overall tone polished and fresh. The best part? Champagne tones complement all skin tones, making them one of the most versatile blonde shades out there,” says Dunn, who adds the shade is wearable year-round.
Kandasamy says champagne highlights are incredibly universal. “It works beautifully on natural brunettes and lighter blonde clients who want to go lighter without going too bright, and it’s especially flattering on clients with cool or warm skin tones.” He notes that it’s a “great choice for clients who want modern, wearable blonde with a luxe finish. He also loves using champagne tones for gray blending. “It softens the contrast while still looking polished and dimensional.”
What to ask for in the salon
The experts agree an inspirational photo is a good place to start. Then ask “your stylist for champagne-toned balayage or soft dimensional highlights with warm beige-gold undertones. Mention you want something glowy, natural and luxe—not icy, not brassy, just right.”
Kandasamy says to make sure your colorist assesses your skin tone, complexion and eye level for a personalized look that’s right for you. “Remember, texture is a starting level and always guides how the shade takes, so a custom approach is key,” he notes. Also, “Talk to your colorist about how much contrast you want. For a more natural effect, ask for natural ribbon highlights using a soft balayage or face framing and tone with champagne hues.”
In the salon, Kandasamy likes to use HYPERMATIC 10-Minute Demi-Permanent Liquid Hair Color in shade (EMPIRE) GP10 blended with (MAGNOLIA) VG10 “to create that clean, champagne reflection. You get lightness and tone without losing natural dimension.”
How to maintain champagne highlights
“To maintain that soft champagne glow between appointments, we always recommend glossing treatments,” says Dunn. “They keep the tone refined, enhance shine, and help prevent brassiness so the color stays luminous and fresh.” Kandasamy recommends using R+Co BLEU Primary Color Shampoo ($49)and the De Luxe Reparative Masque ($62) to maintain that champagne brilliance, preserve tone and give hair a mirror-like shine.
While it’s true that gray hair has never been chicer, silver strands aren’t for everyone. If you’re not ready to give up your signature hair color, you might want to consider a refresh for a vibrant and lively look. Fortunately, there are a few things you can do to give your hair a more youthful appearance. One of the best techniques tot shave some years off is highlighting. With expert placement and the right technique, you can instantly transform your hair, giving it a fresh new look. Beyond the transformative appeal, highlights are also low-maintenance and less damaging. Additionally, when opting for a hair color to help you look more youthful, it’s always best to stick to natural shades. Platinum blondes and cherry reds are nice but require much more upkeep. Ahead, see five chic hair colors perfect for refreshing your style. Like the best eye creams and serums, they’ll turn back the clock and give you a more radiant appearance.
Highlights are an easy way to brighten your hair and your appearance. There are a few popular techniques to try, but colorist Ryan Dickie says that microlights are the best for natural and aging blondes. He explains that the process recreates a true child-like highlight when placed atop the head, creating an illuminating look.

Face-framing balayage
Balayage is another highlighting technique ideal for refreshing your look, especially when placed around the face. This style draws the eye in and subtly focuses on your best facial features, such as your eyes, cheekbones and jawline.

Warm brunette
Warm brunettes will always be timeless. But for a youthful update, Celebrity hairstylist Glen “Coco” Oropeza says that it’s best not to stray too far from your natural color. Instead of completely overhauling your current brown hue, he recommends lifting it two to three shades to bring out its warm undertones.

Toffee bronde
“Toffee bronde is the perfect in-between shade for brunettes or blondes looking for a slight hue change,” says colorist Tia Lambourn. She explains that the warm tones of the color are also versatile and good for breathing fresh life into natural curls.

Cinnamon bronde
Bronde shades offer the best of both worlds because they lighten while keeping your hair looking natural. The traditional color never disappoints, but a cinnamon version will give you a fresher look. It reflects light like a dream, thanks to soft golden tones and hints of straw colors, and is much more wearable than a bold red.

Though there are many types of cleansers to choose from—creams, oils, milks, waters, etc.—many people prefer gels. “Gel cleansers are popular because they can effectively cleanse the skin without stripping it of its natural moisture,” says Fort Wayne, IN dermatologist Dana Spearman, MD. “I often recommend them for my oily or acne-prone patients to help treat and prevent pimples while still protecting the skin from excess dryness.” But, gels aren’t just reserved for those prone to excess oil and breakouts. When formulated correctly, gel cleansers can be a great option for dry skin, sensitive skin and mature skin, too. In fact, three dermatologists we interviewed recommended the same product for dry skin (scroll down to see which one).
“A good cleanser sets the tone for your entire skin-care routine,” says New York dermatologist Julie Russak, MD. “It should support your skin barrier, respect its pH, and prep the skin to actually absorb the actives you’re about to apply.” Below, see the best gel cleanser for every skin type, according to top derms.

With the wave of a magic wand, Cinderella turned into a princess. While it may seem like perfecting skin in a snap is a feat only possible in fairytales, we know a few devices that might prove otherwise. One (or more) of these facial wands deserves a spot in your routine, whether you’re looking to smooth wrinkles or banish acne. We’ve rounded up the best facial wands, including high-frequency, massage, de-puffing and microcurrent wands.
This K-beauty device has gone viral for promoting glass skin on its users. It has six different functions, so if you want an all-in-one device this would be a good bet. Some highlights include microcurrent and electric muscle stimulation (EMS) to help firm and sculpt skin, LED therapy to boost collagen and electric needles to increase elasticity and even skin tone and texture.
This wand comes from the geniuses at TheraFace. It has both hot and cold settings for treatments that have been shown to reduce puffiness, improve elasticity and boost skin radiance. Plus, the relaxing experience is perfect for a moment of self-care.
This new high-tech launch delivers EMS, red light therapy and radio frequency to tone muscles, tighten skin, boost collagen production and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. The device has a corresponding app that provides training, customizable settings and guided treatments, so it won’t be too challenging for beginners to get the hang of it.
The before and after images for this high-frequency wand blew us away. It kills acne-causing bacteria on sight and soothes active breakouts. Feel cystic acne coming on? Target the spot with this wand and stop it in its tracks.
Shani Darden, facialist to the stars, always includes a 10-minute treatment with her signature wand on clients to firm and contour skin. After just seven days of using the anti-aging powerhouse, 74 percent of users agreed their forehead lines appeared smoother.
When it comes to red light wands, Solawave is one of the most popular on the market, and for good reason. After eight weeks of consistent use, you’ll notice a visible reduction in fine lines, wrinkles and dark spots.
The MicroWand from NuFACE is designed to address delicate areas like eyes, lips and fine lines. It de-puffs under-eye bags, plumps lips and smooths fine lines to get you looking like your best self in minutes.
This wand is the perfect prequel to a stacked skin-care routine. The micro-vibrations of this wand de-puff and help active nutrients penetrate 30 to 50 percent deeper to majorly boost the efficacy of skin-care products.
Skin Gym offers a high-frequency wand that helps combat acne-causing bacteria and reduce redness and inflammation. The viral wand comes with three attachments—a spoon, dot and mushroom—so you can perform a range of targeted treatments on your skin.
Over the past few years, fragrance has transformed from a niche luxury to a mandatory part of any routine. And after a lot of experimenting with famous favorites and viral stars, trends are turning towards long-lasting, slow-release perfumes. Tried-and-true bold scents known for projection and longevity are gaining steam, and at the same time, fragrance technology is pursuing new formats for a longer-lasting scent.

Slow-Release Perfumes for Longer-Lasting Scent
There’s a lot that goes into fragrance formulation, and getting a scent to last a long time isn’t necessarily simple.
“How a fragrance releases depends on the characteristics of the individual notes, the combination of which plays a role on how and when it releases over time, in addition to their interaction with skin,” explains Gil Clavien, Principal Perfumer at DSM-Firmenich and the formulator behind Sweet Tooth, Fragrance by Sabrina ($55). “To craft a slow-releasing perfume, it is about finding the right balance of ingredients that will release over time at different intervals to give the impression of a continuous fragrance experience.”
Aside from picking the strongest notes and boldest profiles, formulators consider how the formula will last once it’s on your skin. One key player in fragrance longevity is the concentration of alcohol. Most fragrances are alcohol-based, and alcohol tends to evaporate fairly quickly. That’s one of the reasons why the Clean Reserve H2Eau fragrance line ($28) prioritized a water-based formula with testable longevity. “We conducted our tests using the same oils, changing only whether it was water- or alcohol-based,” says Clean Beauty Collective CEO Greg Black. “And our water formula was at parity with alcoholic fragrances at eight hours, with our formula beating traditional fragrances at 12 hours.”
Fragrance Technology and What’s Next
Thanks to advances in micro-encapsulation technology, fragrances can release more gradually, allowing for enhanced staying power. Just this January, a research team published their findings on nano-capsules for the extended release of fragrances on human skin. “Because of the slow and sustained release of fragrances, encapsulation of molecules in biocompatible NCs can represent a revolutionary contribution to the future of toiletries, body deodorant products and in washing and cleaning sectors,” the study concludes.
At the same time, perfumers are experimenting with temperature-responsive formulas and even creating digitized scents to examine and better replicate fragrances. “When a computer replicates an image, that’s taking light into a camera and turning that into bits of data, transmitting it and having it dematerialize on the other end,” says Generation by Osmo founder and CEO, Alex Wiltschko. “When you do the same thing for smell, you have to build a very complex map for the computer to read and then replicate. It’s like taking something from three-dimensions to 300-dimensions. And once it’s encoded in our scent map, it’s decoded by the fragrance printing robot into instructions, so that it can print that scent again, and it will be identical.”
Bold, Slow-Release Perfumes That Last All Day
If you’re looking for a fragrance that lasts a full eight hours, you can’t go wrong with one of these iconic scents.
This famous fragrance just celebrated its 15th anniversary! Crafted by perfumer Dominique Ropion with an extra high dose of rose and patchouli, this fragrance captivates with a high projection that lasts all day long.
It’s hard to believe this scent launched in 2014, as it’s such an icon of fragrance. First created to celebrate Baccarat’s 250th anniversary, this highly condensed perfume creates a graphic, bold projection that lingers all day for a spicy, ambery effect.
A refreshing and woody scent that lasts all day long, this bergamot and rose fragrance is a luxurious and effortless blend of spices and fresh citrus notes.
Crafted with an assertive profile, this is a scent that lingers for hours, imparting a rich combination of rose and amber meant to pay homage to the sweet, honey-like notes of the Taif rose.
Everything Amouage has amazing longevity, but we especially love the iconic notes of Guidance, which captivates with a triad of rose, frankincense and ambergris.
The combination of smoke and spice delivers a long-lasting timbre of evocative notes, wrapped effortlessly in neroli oil, clary sage oil and tobacco leaf.
This expensive-smelling gourmand is a strong, but sweet scent that softens into honeysuckle and rose notes. Soft marshmallow sugar melts into the ambery base for a long-lasting kiss of sweetness.
For myself and pretty much all of the rest of Gen Z, Miley Cyrus has been the ultimate, cool-girl inspiration since we first learned what a Pinterest board or style icon even was. Throughout her various, head-turning eras, Cyrus has experimented with tons of fashion and beauty looks. Most recently, she’s landed on a rocker-chic vibe that suits her perfectly. Straying a bit from her classic bronde, Cyrus was recently spotted sporting her natural texture and loose strands out on the streets of New York. Her calico color and sharp micro bangs are going directly onto our eccentric beauty wish list.
Miley Cyrus’ Calico Hair and Micro Bangs Are Effortlessly Cool
XNY/Star Max/GC Images
The thing about Miley Cyrus is not just that she always looks cool and trendy, it’s that she looks cool and trendy and like she’s not even trying. The “Flowers” singer has experimented with bold hair looks in the past, but her recent mash-up of brown, blond and slightly auburn hues is reminiscent of the calico hair trend. The feline-inspired look suits Cyrus’ effortless cool-girl aesthetic with remarkable ease.
And what cool-girl look is complete without micro bangs? Cyrus is no newbie to the world of blunt-cut micro bangs, as she’s been seen wearing the super short bangs off duty and on the red carpet. Combined with her dimensional calico-esque color, the sharp bangs take on a whole new life. Did Cyrus just bring back calico hair? Only time will tell…
An open book on love, relationships and body image, as Bertinelli shared with us in a personal and revealing essay in 2022, even after the heyday of One Day at a Time, a long-standing acting career, and the cult-following cookbooks, it can sometimes be hard for her to “believe the good.”
“It’s so strange to hear people say nice things about me, mainly because I’m not used to those positive words rolling around in my head,” she said at the time. “I know I don’t tell myself kind things enough, but how great would it be if we all focused on the kind things that are said about us and the kind people that we really, truly are. We are all born with a good heart and kindness in us. Yet, somehow it gets wiped away by the hardships we go through during our childhood, our lives and all of the traumas we are forced to work through along the way. But we must start listening to the good. I want to start believing the good feedback. I need to start believing the good feedback! If it’s so easy for me to believe the bad things, why isn’t it easy for me to believe the good things?”
The reflective Bertinelli was quick to say she knows many of us share the same sentiment: “I know that goes for all of us. Maybe it’s simply a matter of just switching our minds over to say, ‘I’m worthy of the good things as well. And I’ll fix the things that I find uncomfortable and probably aren’t doing me any service, and I’ll go back to the good. Because that’s the way I can live in joy, and that’s the way I can spread joy when I already feel good about myself.’”
The birthday girl also admitted that something that “holds her back” is her own feelings surrounding her weight. “For me, the big thing is my weight—it’s the thing that holds me back. But I want to start feeling the same about myself—no matter what weight I am. I don’t have to wait until I’ve lost weight to be kind to myself and to be kind to others. It shouldn’t matter what I look like. I’m trying to make that a reality in my life, and then, hopefully, my body will follow.”
One thing she did say she had learned at the time was letting the feelings flow. “I’ve learned this past year is that, sometimes, you just have to let yourself feel the feeling. I’ve spent most of my life trying to push down feelings that were uncomfortable…and that, for me, includes food, and I used food in a way that wasn’t healthy. I know I still do it. Even recently, I noticed myself grabbing some crackers after I finished an intense interview, and I said, ‘Oh, I know what I’m doing right now, I’m eating because eating makes me feel good, and I’m doing it because I’m uncomfortable because I just shared a lot of feelings.’”
The bottom line, Bertinelli poignantly penned, “Being aware of why we do what we do is very helpful. It sounds so simple, but I think it’s something none of us learned in school…and it would be wonderful if we could all start.”
Hailee Steinfeld stars in Sinners, a vampire thriller set in the 1930s, wearing a wavy chin-length bob—a hairstyle very different from the voluminous long locks we’re used to seeing the actress with. From recent personal experience, I can confirm that chopping off several inches of hair in favor of a much shorter style can be intimidating. But, I bet Steinfeld felt pretty confident about the makeover with hairstylist and RŌZ founder Mara Roszak in her corner.
Roszak—the woman also behind Emma Stone’s sleek and sculpted pixie cut—gave Instagram users a peek behind Steinfeld’s big chop, and a kernel of info on the leave-in product she “always” preps clients’ hair with before a cut: RŌZ Milk Hair Serum ($52).
A 2024 NewBeauty Awards winner, RŌZ Milk Hair Serum is a 3-in-1 leave-in hair treatment that hydrates, smooths and detangles for frizz-free hair, whether you air dry or heat style. While Roszak highlights its effectiveness as a detangler, reviewers also spotlight how silky it leaves tresses of all types. “The slip is the best I’ve experienced and makes my [4C] hair so easy to blow dry and comb afterwards without leaving it greasy. Definitely worth the splurge,” says one customer. “The texture, the fragrance, the results are top notch. I love that this doesn’t leave a sticky feeling in your hair after use because it’s so lightweight,” notes another. “Makes my hair dry beautifully with no frizz and makes it super soft. Also smells great!” raves a third.
Hailee Steinfeld may now be growing out her bob for a flippy shoulder-length clavicut, but judging by its sleek style, it’s a safe assumption she has a bottle of the RŌZ Milk Hair Serum still on hand.
The word “viral” is thrown around pretty casually these days, but one beauty brand has the data to back it up: Tarte. A September 2024 study by Charm.io, published by WWD, revealed Tarte as the fastest-growing beauty brand on TikTok Shop. (According to Charm.io’s study, Tarte made $21.5 million in sales from September 2023 to September 2024.) If you’ve ever tried Tarte’s makeup, it’s probably not too much of a surprise; Shape Tape is the world’s number-one concealer for a reason.
As of today, Tarte’s high-performance, cruelty-free formulas—that are always free of parabens, phthalates and other questionable additives—are now more accessible than ever. For the first time, a vast selection of Tarte’s best-sellers, including the iconic Shape Tape Concealer ($32), viral Maracuja Juicy Lip ($27) and award-winning Tartelette Tubing Mascara ($28), will all be available to Amazon customers with the ease and speed of Prime shipping. The products are straight from the brand (no dodgy third-party sellers involved). We also spotted the Creaseless Creamy Concealer ($30), this year’s NewBeauty Awards winner for Best Full Coverage Foundation, and the best-selling Creaseless Setting and Brightening Powder ($36), a must-have to keep shine at bay this summer.
Pastels aren’t the only spring-appropriate nail shades! If you’re looking to give your mani a new twist, we’re rounding up the best unexpected nail colors. From murky greens to dusky pinks, these colors weren’t your average choice for a mani, until now!
Unexpected Nail Colors We Love for Spring
Stand out with these unconventional nail shades! You might be surprised by how perfect they are for the season.
Neutral Greens
Unlike traditionally bright seasonal choices, these are more muted tones of green that feel lived-in and elegant while keeping an earthy, grounded look.
A high-performance creme with a gorgeous mossy green pigment, this shade is a breath of fresh air in springtime without being too bright or overpowering.
This shade is just the right side of bright. Still a perfect neutral that can perform in any season, this muted sage is a gorgeously unconventional nail color.
Unlike the lavender and lilac shades we’ve been obsessing over in early spring, these purple shades are a little more unconventional. Just take duo-chromes that journey from green to pink to soft purple—these feel festival-appropriate and a little alien, in the best way.
This hand-mixed, small-batch lacquer is a favorite among nail polish junkies for a reason, and the moss-to-violet of this formula is unexpectedly perfect.
You might consider these nail polish shades “ugly.” We consider them under-loved. These dark, murky tones are a bold neutral, especially in a pastel season.
This coffee-inspired brown is a captivating dark walnut that will pair beautifully with a matcha or pastel pink. Or wear by itself for a bold, earthy mani.
There’s something so understated and elegant about these dusky pink shades. Rather than the sheer soap nails trend or the more pastel approach that you might think of in spring, these shades incorporate subtle purple, gray and even brown tones to create a more subdued look.
Few TV characters have had the impact of Rachel Green, played by Jennifer Aniston. From the opening credits of Friends season 1 to the show’s finale, her hairstyles remained a hot topic. There was the original haircut, a charming layered style, several long hair moments and various bobs to keep us all interested. But what makes her many looks so iconic is the timeless appeal. While the trends are constantly evolving, so is the “Rachel”. The modern versions feature similar shapes with updated elements, including trendy bangs and cool colors.
Looking back, it’s as though everyone’s favorite barista turned fashion buyer never got stuck in a hair rut. It made for great TV, but it has also given us decades of inspiration to pull from. It’s easy to get into a groove and rely on the same hairstyle day after day. The tried and true bun, sleek bob and ponytail never miss. However, if you’re searching for something new, you might want to look back through the catalog of iconic Rachel Green hairstyles.

Layered step cut
It’s safe to say that this look pioneered the step cut. While layers are nothing new, the graduated, face-framing cuts create a one-of-a-kind look. It’s essentially a grown-out version of her original haircut but it has a Y2K feel that makes it feel modern.

Claw clip updo
In the earlier seasons of Friends, it was hard to find an episode where Rachel wasn’t sporting a claw clip style at least once. While there are many claw clip looks (we’ll get into more on this list), the updos are some of the most effortless.

Flippy bob
Flippy bobs are having a moment right now. If you’ve contemplated cutting your hair this season, this style is a great option. The chin length and choppy ends add some edge, while the curtain bangs highlight your best facial features.

Layered bob
Easygoing and effortless is the name of the game for this look. Like the “Rachel,” it features choppy ghost layers for natural volume. However, one of its best features is the invisible part. Whether tossed to one side or left to fall naturally, the make-shift part casually transforms the look into a sultry style.

Mid-length blowout
Texture played a big role in many of her looks, whether it was showing off natural waves or leaning into a tousled style. This blowout delivers that same energy. Falling just below the shoulders with airy waves, it’s the perfect look if you’re not ready for a big chop.

Double claw clips
The claw clips are back for round two. For a truly nostalgic look, use a few miniature clips to tie back your hair and give it a decorative appearance.

Rachel 2.0
There’s a reason the original cut is still requested years after Jennifer Aniston debuted it. The blend of choppy layers and shoulder-grazing length creates a versatile style that looks even better as it grows out.
If your breasts seem to change with your cycle, or over time, you’re not imagining it. Hormones play a powerful role in shaping everything from fullness to firmness to sensitivity. These fluctuations aren’t just part of your period or pregnancy, they’re a lifelong hormonal conversation happening in your body.

The Monthly Shift
Your period doesn’t just mess with your mood. It’s also changing how your breasts feel. “During the follicular phase and ovulation, estrogen levels peak and promote ductal growth and fluid retention in the breast tissue, which can lead to swelling and tenderness,” says New York OBGYN Molly McBride, MD. “Progesterone levels rise during the luteal phase and lead to further glandular proliferation and increased size and tenderness.”
Wichita, KS plastic surgeon Amy Sprole, MD agrees: “As hormone levels rise, the breasts can become slightly more full, firm and sensitive. These changes regress as hormone levels fall back down within the cycle.”
Pregnancy and Beyond
Your breasts undergo dramatic changes during pregnancy and lactation, but not all of them are temporary. “During pregnancy, the breasts typically become larger, more firm and more sensitive due to hormonal stimulation,” says Dr. Sprole. “During breastfeeding, they become even larger and more full and firm due to milk engorgement of the glands. Typically, all of these changes go away after childbirth, but some women report that the enlargement doesn’t completely reverse when breastfeeding ends.
There are visible changes too. “The areola darkens and breast size increases due to hormonal changes,” adds Dr. McBride.
The Perimenopause-to-Menopause Drop
Hormonal decline is one of the most under-discussed reasons behind the changes many women see in their breasts with age. “During perimenopause, hormone levels fluctuate, with the general trend being downward,” explains Dr. Sprole. “Women often notice that breasts get smaller, looser and less firm.”
Dr. McBride explains that as estrogen levels drop, the tissue that gives breasts their shape and fullness starts to shrink. “This leads to reduced breast glandular tissue, which leads to a decrease in breast size and firmness,” she says.
What About Birth Control and HRT?
Whether you’re starting birth control or going on hormone replacement therapy, expect changes. “Oral contraceptives, which contain synthetic estrogen and progesterone, can cause breast swelling and tenderness due to their hormonal effects,” says Dr. McBride. “Hormone replacement therapy in postmenopausal women can also lead to similar changes.”
Translation: synthetic or not, estrogen and progesterone will have their way with your boobs.
What This Means for Breast Health
The connection between hormones and breast health goes beyond size and tenderness. “Benign breast disease is associated with elevated levels of estradiol and testosterone, especially in peri and postmenopause,” says Dr. McBride. “Hormones and growth factors also impact tissue composition and density, which are important risk factors for breast cancer.” There are even rare conditions like aromatase excess syndrome that cause excess estrogen and visible breast enlargement.
“Many women don’t realize how closely age-related breast changes are tied to the regression of estrogen over time,” says Dr. Sprole. While sagging might feel inevitable, hormones could be behind more of it than you think. Paying attention to these shifts can help you better understand your body, and your options, as you age.
You may know Sarah Levy from her role on the Emmy-winning comedy series, Schitt’s Creek, but this April she’s playing ‘Susan Ireland’ in SYFY’s Surreal Estate. Now in its third season, the paranormal-drama series kicked-off April 3, releasing new episodes weekly over the course of 10 weeks. Besides being outwardly excited regarding the return to her role, Levy recently chatted with us about her current “these-really-work” beauty picks and balancing some “bucket list” opportunities.
When we last spoke, you shared your love for SkinCeuticals and Joanna Vargas—you know all the good skin care. What are you loving right now?
Oh, man. I’m such a sucker for product! I will always love my Joanna Vargas and SkinCeuticals. Over the past couple years, I got into Skinfix and I’m loving that line as well. I’m using their moisturizer, their serum and their face wash. The Barrier Plus ($30) is amazing and takes off every speck of makeup just with the face wash—which is hard to achieve. You usually have to really double cleanse or grab a face cloth to get everything off. It is my favorite face wash of all time.
I know the line. I think dermatologists recommend it, too.
Yes. Going to work and then wearing a mask through COVID and stuff…my skin barrier, especially around my nose, where the mask just kept rubbing, felt like it was gone. That was suggested to me to build it up and get it healthy again. It really worked.
Besides beauty, you have your third season Surreal Estate out right now. Are you still enjoying working on it?
I’m loving it. I feel like we’ve really hit our stride. The first two seasons were great. The third season is even better. During the third season of any television show, you just feel like you’re comfy in it at that point and you don’t need to explain a lot. You know the characters, you know their history.
The beauty of our show is that every episode is different. You never get tired of these circumstances because it changes all the time. Some are ghosts, some are monsters and some are really just people—these entities that we help move on in the houses that we try and ghostbust and sell. Some are just really beautiful souls that just need help moving on. You’re never stuck in one particular genre, which I love the most.

And, you were recently a guest judge on Top Chef, and you’re a big foodie. Did you enjoy doing that? Do you consider cooking a hobby?
Oh, yes. Being a guest star on Top Chef was a true bucket list moment. I honestly never thought I would get the opportunity to do something like that. I was just trying to stay present as much as possible while having pinch-me moments every five seconds. It was incredible to see how that show works and how much of a well-oiled machine it is!
I was on the second episode of this latest season. We had, I believe it was 16 or so contestants. We were at the beginning. I got to meet everybody and taste everybody’s dishes. How do I explain this properly? It’s like you watch TV and all of a sudden I felt like I was in my TV doing it. Even though I do it for a living, that specific thing is something that I’m not used to at all. It was epic.
I do love cooking still. Although I don’t get to do it as much as I’d like with my now-almost three-year-old running around. It’s not as relaxing as I had hoped it would have been, or it has been in the past, but it’s still a huge part of my life.
Your family was affected by the LA wildfires. I’m sorry to hear that. How has the rebuilding process been working for you?
It has been such a journey. The past three months…it feels like it’s been 10 years, and it feels like it’s been two days in a weird way. It’s really only been 90. There’s still so much up in the air. My heart is still in the Palisades. I just love my neighborhood and my community so much. Our plan is to rebuild. It’s so hard to say where the road will end up taking us, but for now, that’s our plan.
I want to get back there. I want to see the community rebuilt. I know it will be because it is just too strong. Everyone is really pulling together to bring it back, it seems, as quickly as possible. I know it will take years, but I’m hoping it’ll move sooner rather than later.
The arrival of spring is always met with mixed emotions. While we’re all happily looking forward to sunshine and the return of tulips, the weather often brings us right back to the chilly gray days of winter. But moodboarding the spring 2025 makeup trends provides a good distraction. Filled with punchy colors inspired by flowers and new energy, the looks are a great way to forget about winter. While traditional shades and styles will be prevalent this season, makeup artists note that shimmery finishes will dominate the trends. Pearly eyeshadows, chrome blushes and prismatic glosses are all poised to take off. In that vein, there are a lot of creative looks to explore. Ahead, two makeup artists break down the top spring 2025 makeup trends and share their tips to get the looks.
Winter’s icy makeup trend has evolved into a soft shimmer look for spring. Instead of frosted lids, makeup artist David Birdwell says that an iridescent eye is more seasonally appropriate moving into spring. “It’s sophisticated and creates an ethereal luminous effect that enhances your natural features.”
Blush trends are constantly changing, but according to makeup artist Kim Paige there has been a clear shift in shade preferences. With makeup trends skewing more natural than contrived, she says petal pinks and peachy nudes will be just as popular as punchy colors.
If you prefer maximal to minimal makeup, an edgy eyeshadow look will be your best friend this spring. Whether you choose bold colors or graphic shapes, it’s the perfect way to get creative and pairs well with the season’s glossy lip trend.
Natural, radiant skin is having a moment for good reason. It’s fresh and dewy but not sweaty, creating a chic canvas for color. Achieving this look is all about skin prep. “Hydrating your skin gives you that lit-from-within glow,” says Paige. However, she notes playing up the radiance won’t hurt. “Use face products that let your natural beauty shine through, then add your favorite highlighter on your cheekbones, the bridge of your nose, and tear ducts.”
Chrome and glazed finishes are finally entering the makeup arena. From cheeks to lips, Birdwell explains that the prismatic effect will be particularly buzzy as we move into spring. To nail the look, he recommends pairing a vibrant blush with a shimmery, glossy lip “The combination of high-shine and color-shifting pearls adds to the multidimensional effect.”
