5 Ways to Clean Up Your Beauty Routine for Spring featured image

You may not have escaped chilly weather quite yet, but it’s officially spring, which means time for “Spring Cleaning.” The most important part of your seasonal spiff up? Your makeup bag! Follow this guide to on what to clean, what to toss and what to do in order to get ready for the warmer months.

Clean your makeup brushes
By now, you’ve probably heard that dirty makeup brushes can cause acne. So, if you haven’t cleaned them in a while, now is definitely the time. You can either use a makeup brush cleaner or you can even use the same shampoo that you use for your hair. In a perfect world, you would do this after each use, but who has time for that? Instead, aim to do it at least once a week from now on.

Toss out old makeup products
We know it’s hard, but it’s time to say goodbye to old beauty products. On the bright side, now you get to start anew with a fresh supply! Here’s when to move on:
-Three months for mascara and liquid eyeliner.
-Six months for liquid or cream makeup products you apply with your hands. One year for liquid or cream makeup products you apply with clean brushes.
-One year for powder makeup products, lip products and makeup pencils.
-Immediately for any products that smell funky or have a different texture than when you first started using them.

Get organized
It’s easy to forget about all the fabulous beauty products you have when they’re hidden under all the clutter you can accumulate over the year. Lighten up your skin care products
Harsh winter weather usually requires heavier skin care products, but as it gets warmer, your skin care products should lighten up. Opt for a light moisturizer like Orlane Super-Moisturizing Light Cream ($165).

Get a facial
While we clean our homes and our beauty supply, it’s also a good time to get a good facial. While the relaxation factor alone is enough to make us schedule an appointment, sometimes our skin needs a good deep clean. Plus, if you’re not happy with your current skincare regimen, a dermatologist or aesthetician can help you chose the best products for your particular skin type to get you on the right track.
