A fabulous haircut can run from $100 up to $800 or more. Before balking at the going rate, understand why your stylist commands top dollar and why you shouldn’t cut corners. “A good cut may be more, but you’ll look fantastic,” says celebrity hairstylist Francky L’Official.
1. You’re getting years of training and experience
You may know what hairstyles you like but an expert, who has years of experience cutting hair and understands what goes into making a cut look really good, can help you make decisions on what styles will work and which ones won’t.
2. Your needs and lifestyle are considered
A good stylist will sit with you to learn what you want and how you care for your hair. “If you don’t have the time to spend on your hair then your stylist shouldn’t give you a cut that requires a lot to look good,” says celebrity stylist Mara Roszak. Your facial structure and how frequently you color your hair should be considered, too.
3. The overall experience is more enjoyable
When you’re spending hours at a salon you want to feel pampered. Part of the experience includes a head or scalp massage, plush robes and time for yourself to relax. “Getting your hair washed, enjoying a cup of tea and walking out with a great blowout are the perks of a good salon experience,” says celebrity stylist Jen Atkin.
4. You can actually save money
If you invest in a really good haircut, your style will last longer. Sure, you’ll need touch-ups here and there, but you will not need to have a major cut done as often. “A good haircut will grow in well, so you will be able to wear it for longer,” says L’Official.
5. Your hair is one of the first things people notice about you
Your overall style says a lot about you and so does your hair. “Good hair goes along with good skin and nice teeth. If you take care of one part of your body, shouldn’t you treat the rest the same?” asks Atkin. L’Official also adds that good hair can make you feel more confident, too.
