There are plenty of options to consider when trying to lose weight: You can start a restricted diet, try an extreme procedure or you could always take the old fashioned route of exercising and eating healthy. But while you endeavor to lose those pounds, keep in mind there are some quick ways to at least appear thinner without breaking a sweat. Take a look at these tips to see how.

Angle your haircut:
If your face is round, there’s actually a way to cut your hair to create angles that make you look thinner. “The angles should be strategically placed depending on the natural face shape, says L’Oréal Professionnel Senior Stylist, Mika Rummo from Salon AKS in New York. “Short pieces around the eyes help enhance check bones, while slightly deeper angles around the neck help to enhance the jawline.” She adds that highlights can achieve the same effect. “Remember that lighter colors draw in the eye, so that’s where the focus will be. Just like with clothes, wearing all black makes you look thinner. The same applies to your hair-darker colors detract attention from the areas you don’t want people to focus on.” An example she uses is Erica Van Pelt’s makeover on American Idol. She started with mid-length, light-colored hair and switched to shorter, black hairstyle instead (see image).

Spritz with a skinny scent:
It’s time to become a fan of spicy, floral-based perfumes because the scent combination apparently makes you seem thinner to people who smell you. In a study conducted by neurologist and psychiatrist, Alan R. Hirsch, MD, of the Smell & Taste Treatment and Research Foundation, about 200 men were split into four groups. Each group was asked to smell a 5’9″ woman who weighed 245 lb. and then estimate her weight. She wore one type of scent for each group: first, a combination of citrus and floral, second, a mixture of sweat pea and lily of the valley and third, a combination of floral and spices. For the last group, she didn’t wear any fragrance at all. Among the men tested, the group that smelled her in the floral and spiced scent perceived her weight to be 4.1 pounds lighter than her actual weight, while those who actually thought the scent was pleasant perceived her to be a full 12 pounds lighter than her actual weight. Now that’s a reason to wear perfume every morning.
