Just like with our skin, there are just some days when our hair doesn’t want to behave. Cowlicks, frizziness, fly-aways-you name it, we’ve all had to deal with them. But just because our hair has a life of its own, doesn’t mean we have to be banished to that old hat and scarf getup. Here are some hairstyles that are sure to get your through any bad hair day.

The Sock Bun
Here’s a great way to make use of socks that have lost their mate in the laundry or whatever mythical land that socks go to hide. Simply cut the toe out of an unwanted sock and roll it down until your create a doughnut shape. Then, put the doughnut around the top of your ponytail and roll the sock down towards your scalp, tucking your hair in as you go. Once you’ve formed the bun to your desire, pin your hair into place. And voilà, you have the perfect bun to tame your naughty hair.

The Romantic Crown Braid
This hairstyle is a classy-looking way to get your hair out of the way. To get the look, evenly distribute your favorite volumizing mousse throughout damp strands. A great one to use is Shu Uemura Ample Angora Volumizing Light Foam ($38), says Nicholas Penna, Jr., owner and lead stylist at SalonCapri in Newton and Dedham, MA. Once your hair is dry, begin a French braid on either side of the natural part, just above your ears, starting with small portions of hair. As the braid begins to form, start adding in more generous sections from beneath the braid. Next, pin both braids at the back of your head, making sure to tuck one into the other so it appears as a continuous crown around your head. To soften the look, gently pull out a few wisps of hair around your face. Finish this look with Shu Uemura Sheer Lacquer Finishing Spray ($38).

The Good Ole’ Headband
If all else fails, just slick your hair back with any headband of your choice. With so many fabulous ones out there, no one will even suspect that your hair is misbehaving. If your hair needs to be tamed even more, simply tie the rest of it into a ponytail or a low bun.
