How can I get rid of the 11’s between my brows?

These brow furrows that you’re referring to are expression lines, which Botox® can easily remedy for a few months at a time. Requiring no surgery and no recovery, Botox® may be just what you’re looking for, as it provides a temporary solution, inhibiting the muscle movements that lead to unwanted wrinkling between the brows. In turn it softens existing lines and prevents new ones from forming as well.

Looking Your Best

If you’re looking to rejuvenate your face, look no further than Dr. Suh. “I recommend proper diet and exercise coupled with noninvasive and surgical treatments—including short-scar face- and necklifts, which I perform using local anesthesia and shorter incisions. MACS-lifts, lower facelifts and facial liposuction are other possible options,” says Dr. Suh, who also offers patients various chemical peels, coupled with a good, home skin-care regimen such as Obagi®. Additional options include Thermage®, ThermaScan™, and the Fraxel® SR Laser, which accelerates healing to create new, taut skin. “Patients may also want to consider Broad Band Light, a noninvasive therapy that requires no downtime or anesthesia, to target sunspots, age spots, fine lines, enlarged pores and hyperpigmentation.” When it comes to rebuilding the skin’s volume, Dr. Suh offers fillers—including fat grafts, Restylane®, Radiesse® and Juvéderm® injections. “My goal is to maximize modern technology, obtaining optimal results that inspire beauty, confidence and self-esteem,” she says.

Philosophy

Dr. Yongsook Victoria Suh transforms patients with confidence-boosting combination treatments that provide comprehensive solutions to aesthetic concerns. “I help patients achieve their goals with varied modalities ranging from surgery to laser treatments,” Dr. Suh says. “My specialty is surgery, but I don’t shy away from nonsurgical treatments that can complement surgery or even stand alone to give my patients the results they desire.”

How can I ensure I’ll like my eyelift results?

A procedure like the eyelift, also called blepharoplasty, is one where you really need to have an in-depth conversation with your surgeon. I recommend at least two consultations for this treatment to make sure I understand the patient’s vision for their eyes. I also carefully analyze the results over time. It can take six months for everything to settle and to see the final results. So I never rush into a revision, which can take away from what we’ve done.

About my practice:

What is your core sub-specialization?
I specialize in advanced facial rejuvenation and body contouring techniques, providing individualized care to yield more youthful, fortified appearances.
What beauty product do you think every patient should have?
There are quite a few, including topical vitamin c, retinol, an eye cream and sunblock.
Where do you perform your procedures?
I realize patients' goals in an intimate, relaxed setting: either in my private office or at a nearby surgical center.
How long has your practice been in existence?
The 2001 debut of the victoria plastic surgery center heralded in my practice as a service-oriented, patient-focused facility led by a devoted, attentive team.
What information do you wish to impart to patients?

Plastic surgery is more than cosmetic. It’s about instilling hope. I am a plastic surgeon because I believe that I can make things better.

How is your practice unique?

My practice is very progressive. I am always reassessing myself and looking for the best new techniques to treat my patients. I want my patients to have a safe environment but also one where they can find new ideas to address their concerns.

What products do you recommend?

There are quite a few, including topical vitamin C, retinol, an eye cream and sunblock.

What nonsurgical treatments can improve my appearance?

Today there are many nonsurgical ways to improve your appearance. At my practice, we offer an array of services including Fraxel® Dual, which uses microscopic laser columns to resurface the skin and stimulate collagen production to treat aging and sun-damaged skin. For those who suffer from acne, Isolaz® uses broadband light to kill bacteria and a gentle vacuum to remove dead skin cells and other debris for clearer skin. We also offer the new Liposonix®, a noninvasive treatment that uses high-intensity focused ultrasound energy to permanently destroy fat around the waistline.

Why is follow up an important part of your practice?

I believe follow-up is just as important as the surgery itself. Proper post-op care is a sure way to get the best results. I typically see the patient 24 to 72 hours after the surgery. Then I will see them in the next few weeks to check on their progress. I may see the patient six times or more throughout the first year, and I also ask them to come back and see me annually. I want patients to feel confident that they have a safety net and a partner to monitor their results. I also want to see the progression of the treatment so I can evaluate my own techniques.

About me:

How do you start each day?
With a prayer.
What framed photos do you have on your desk?
I have pictures of my parents and my colleagues from Ohio State University, where I performed my plastic and reconstructive surgery residency.
What inspired you to pursue a career in plastic surgery?
After seeing how cosmetic surgery transformed an academically challenged child into a straight-a social butterfly, I knew I had found my calling. If I can do that for one human being, even one a year, I am fulfilling my job as a surgeon.

What are you never without?

I'm never without my smile, beeper and lipstick.

Where do you go to escape the office?

Home

How would patients describe you?

My patients always say that I’m someone who tries to be positive, who is always bright and who laughs a lot. They know I am always there to listen and have something positive to say.

Why do you teach?

I teach surgical residents and medical students at Fairfax Hospital, and it’s important because I learn from it. I am also given the opportunity to share my passion for my work and my past experiences with them. If they can somehow take what I do and make it better, then I feel like I have done some service to the world as a physician and as a human being.

What is your communication style?

I tell patients what they need to hear rather than just what they want to hear. I don’t mind turning patients away when it’s the right thing to do. I get a lot of letters from patients not because I’ve done surgery for them but because I didn’t or because I gave them a new perspective.
