Extreme Specialist™ Replenishment Complex

Effective and efficient replenishment comes to the rescue when very dry or stressed skin needs something more. This rich treatment works as a powerful soother for skin challenged by frigid weather, pollution, sunburn, late nights, air travel, hormonal changes or emotional stress.

Insider Information

Specializing in individually tailored combination treatments, Dr. Shamban relies on a large toolbox of treatments to ensure a large variety of procedure offerings and patient-specific results. “When I first started out, there were only three lasers on the market. Today, I offer about 19 laser and light-based treatments, making me more apt to pair each patient with the right technology for their unique aesthetic goals,” says Dr. Shamban. “I am fortunate to have experienced the evolution of the field, firsthand. My patients have benefited, as well.”

With over 20 years of experience treating the skin, Dr. Shamban has become well known for her predictable results in an accelerated time frame. “I like to practice what I call `responsible aesthetics,’ beginning with the epidermis and ending with the structural elements of the face,” she says. “People should look natural and rested, but still maintain individuality.” When treating patients, Dr. Shamban has one goal in mind: to inspire happiness. “If you look in the mirror and see something you don’t like, your self-esteem will suffer. When I am done treating a patient, the best compliment I can receive is when they look in the mirror and can proudly say, ‘I am beautiful.’”

Philosophy

Dr. Ava Shamban is truly the do-it-all Derm. Many know her as the skin maven from Extreme Makeover or from her regular appearances on The Doctors. But this research scientist, author, business owner and supermom of three takes on a lot more than TV. Dr. Ava (as her patients like to call her) graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University, received her medical degree from Case Western Reserve Medical School, and serves as assistant clinical professor of dermatology at the UCLA-Geffen School of Medicine. She lectures both nationally and abroad, and serves as principal investigator for many clinical and FDA trials. But if you had to sum her up in one word, Dr. Ava is a friend. She understands the link between appearance and self-esteem and helps patients heal their skin and live happier lives.

Extreme Makeover

Dr. Shamban is a regular on television and in print (she has been featured in Lucky and Town & Country magazines, to name a few). With her own skin-care line, AVA MD, which received coverage in People magazine, Dr. Shamban is a true scientist of the skin helping extend the results of in-office treatments. With over 20 years of experience, Dr. Shamban has become well known for her predictable results in an accelerated time frame. Yet, despite all of her accomplishments, Dr. Shamban says her most memorable experience was participating in Extreme Makeover. I enjoy helping my patients reach their goals, and Extreme Makeover was a very informative experience for me. I discovered you can peel, laser and heal the skin very rapidly, with dramatic results. A true media personality, Dr. Shamban has yet to reach her professional zenith. A participant in dermatological research and product development, she is constantly advancing the field. I'm excited for the future developments we have yet to see that will continue to enhance the quality of care we can offer patients.

About my practice:

How has the field of dermatology evolved over the years?
When I first started out, there were only three lasers on the market. Today, I offer about 24 distinct laser and light-based treatments, giving me the ability to truly pair each patient with the right technology.
What is your main goal when treating patients?

I want to inspire happiness. When you feel there is something beautiful about yourself, it empowers you. The best compliment I can receive is when patients look in the mirror and can proudly say, “I am beautiful.”

Do you perform any pro bono work?

I am very active in the cancer support community, and we recently launched The Skin Recovery Clinic at our offices to help patients address the skin-care challenges that come with cancer treatment. Currently, Ava MD has partnered with The Benjamin Cancer Support Center and PADRES Contra el Cancer, as well as the Avon Foundation; our philanthropic partnerships in the cancer support area will be expanding over the next few months. Ava MD also strives to give back in the field of education, especially for underprivileged young people. To that end, I am currently involved with A Place Called Home and the Santa Monica College Foundation.

About me:

In what ways are you conservative?
I like to practice what I call 'responsible aesthetics,' beginning with the epidermis and ending with the structural elements of the face. People should look natural and rested, but still maintain individuality.
What attracted you to dermatology?
I realized that dermatology offered the best combination of medicine and aesthetics.
What are you best known for?

I’m best known for consistent results, and I regularly appear on television and in print. I’m also known for my skin-care line AVA MD, which was featured in People. However, my most memorable experience was participating in Extreme Makeover. I enjoy helping my patients reach their goals, and Extreme Makeover was a very informative experience for me. I discovered you can peel, laser and heal the skin very rapidly, with dramatic results.

Heal Your Skin: The Breakthrough Plan for Renewal

Dr. Shamban’s book is based on her extensive knowledge from more than 20 years of experience in dermatology. Heal Your Skin: The Breakthrough Plan for Renewal maps out specific skin-care regimens tailored to age, skin type and internal condition. “With this book, I wanted to empower readers with the information they need to look their best no matter how they feel,” explains Dr. Shamban. It covers everything from how to take care of your skin during pregnancy, menopause, cancer treatment and times of heightened stress; to at-home organic skin-care recipes and state-of-the-art dermatologic techniques. “The book provides a complete skin-healing program that shows readers how to care for their skin inside and out,” says Dr. Shamban. “Life happens—but it doesn’t have to show on your skin.” Heal Your Skin is available now at all major booksellers in paperback and on iTunes as a downloadable ebookfor iPhone and iPad.
