How is your practice influenced by the graphic arts?

I have been honored to win awards and have my artwork on display at the National Library of Medicine. These experiences have provided me with a unique creative foundation and perspective. Because the field of plastic surgery is grounded in both art and science, I believe my background is instrumental in helping my cosmetic surgery patients obtain consistently natural results.

What factors influence your procedure recommendations?

We look at lifestyle, habits and diet, in addition to a host of other considerations. The objective is to try to get to know our patients and their goals so we can provide them with proper recommendations.

How is your philosophy reflected in your office environment?

Upon first entering my facility, patients are put at ease by a lighted waterfall, accents of granite and wood, and relaxing, soothing music. In my experience, people feel beautiful when they are surrounded by beauty. And our combined medical spa, laser center and cosmetic surgery center provides comprehensive aesthetic care all under one roof.

WHO IS YOUR SMART FACELIFT PATIENT?

The procedure has achieved successful results in patients ranging from 30 to over 70 years old. The typical patient is around 50 years old, has reasonable skin tone, and notices that their cheeks and jowls are beginning to sag.

HOW LONG WIL THE RESULTS LAST?

I have patients over 10 years out from their surgery that have maintained elevation of their cheeks. However, an additional benefit of the SMART Facelift is that, years later, I can easily retighten the lift without redoing the entire procedure.

ARE THERE OTHER BENEFITS TO THE SMART FACELIFT?

Because the SMART Facelift is completed in less than an hour under local anesthesia, patients do not require narcotics for pain management, and they can drive immediately afterward.

WHY IS YOUR SMART FACELIFT A POPULAR OPTION?

Typically, with my SMART Facelift procedure, there is very little bruising or swelling, so patients usually have almost no downtime. Because the procedure repositions the sagging cheeks and jowls without pulling on the skin, patients never appear “pulled.”

Recognizing that aging involves more than just sagging skin, Dr. Summers developed the SMART Facelift to lift the brows, cheeks, jowls and upper neck—without removing skin. “Patients can experience maximum aesthetic results minimally invasively, avoiding a pulled look,” says Dr. Summers, who refined the technique to achieve reliable results in less than an hour with only local anesthesia and a single, one-inch incision hidden above the ear. Such was the case for this 53-year-old, who had a SMART Facelift and liposuction under the chin.
