Before Linda Hamilton flexed her “guns” as Sarah Connor in the movie Terminator 2, women didn’t really pay much attention to how toned their arms were. But Hamilton’s bulging biceps proved that muscles can be supersexy.

Today, great arms are essential on any red carpet or whenever we dare to bare our arms. Jessica Biel is one actress who is blessed with great muscle tone, and has refined her physique through hours of cardio, training and martial arts to prepare for movie roles.

One exercise that tones arms (as well as the chest and core) and doesn’t require any equipment is the pushup, which you can do anytime, anywhere. Do them every other day to see results.

Here are 11 more enviable and inspirational celebs who have great arms and some tips to help you fire up your own.

Carrying daughter Suri through her baby and toddler years surely helped Katie Holmes achieve her sinewy arms. Because the arms have fewer fat cells than other areas of the body, they are often the last place to gain weight. However, once you do gain weight in your arms, they’ll quickly look flabby.

Actress Eva Mendes has beautiful, golden skin, which can help to make arms appear thinner. Opt for a buildable self-tanner (applied after exfoliation) to get a gorgeous glow.

Gwyneth Paltrow is envied by many for her flawless skin. Radio-frequency or ultrasound-assisted laser treatments, such as Thermage or Ultherapy, can be used to tighten up any sagging skin and may be able to blast away small pockets of fat, too.

While you won’t experience any downtime, you may need pain medication or anesthesia during the treatment, which can be painful.

She may be 50, but actress Felicity Huffman has maintained a youthful body and rock-hard arms.

With age, we lose collagen and elastin in the arms as well as other areas of the body. If sagging is an issue, skin tighteners that combine massage, laser, heat, radio-frequency energy, vacuums (or any combination of those) may help tighten and tone the arms.

When working the arms in the gym, hit all the muscle groups to get muscle definition like actress Jada Pinkett Smith. Work the biceps and triceps as well as the tops and sides of your shoulders for a complete workout. Since there’s fewer fat cells on your arms, you’ll see results faster.

Younger skin, like that of 26-year-old actress Blake Lively, has the benefit of good collagen production and elastin. If you’ve accumulated fat in your arm and have good, youthful skin tone, liposuction can dramatically improve the look of areas in your arms that have been resistant to exercise.

While she may not play butt-kicking action heroes like she did in years gone by, actress Jennifer Garner still has the body to get the job done. Incorporating cardiovascular exercise with strength training will help burn fat all over—especially in the arms.

Aim for five days a week with a minimum of 30 minutes per session, and work up to 60 minutes.

Hilary Swank is another actress who has toned up for her movie roles and maintained her amazing results. She also proves that skin doesn’t need to be overly tan to be beautiful. Excess exposure to the sun’s damaging rays can result in dark pigment spots, commonly on the shoulders.

A dermatologist may recommend a topical hydroquinone treatment to help with this discoloration, but if it’s stubborn, laser treatments may be used to break up the pigmentation.

Years of healthy maintenance have helped actress Robin Wright keep her 47-year-old arms toned and in great shape, but gaining and losing weight can wreak havoc on skin texture.

Women who lose a large amount of weight may be left with unsightly, sagging underarms. For severe cases, a plastic surgeon can perform an arm lift, during which the surgeon will remove excess skin and fat to permanently reshape the arms.

Donning shoulder-and-arm-bearing gowns is a common occurrence for stars like Sofia Vergara, but if your arms are currently under construction, avoid sleeveless shirts and tank tops that draw attention the arms. During the summer, choose light-cotton tunics to keep arms covered and even protected from the sun’s dangerous rays.
