In the last decade, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the number of non-surgical cosmetic procedures performed has inflated an amazing 747%. Leading the way, of course, is Botox. And recent trends show that those popular injections are heading a little farther south.
An increasing number of patients are getting Botox injections in their necks. USA Today reports that many women want to correct the chin-to-chest bands, or platysmal muscles, that become more prominent in their 40s and 50s. Botox offers a solution by relaxing the muscle, which gives the appearance of shrinking the bands.
Ranging from $600 to $1000, the procedure has risks, like any cosmetic treatment, but they are few and far between. Some patients experience brief discomfort or difficulty when swallowing; and experts say singers should not opt for this procedure because it could change the voice.
