The NewBeauty SampleBar makes its mall debut

Posted Wednesday, November 25, 2009 by Michele Sotallaro, Assistant to the Publisher, NewBeauty

Being a member of the NewBeauty team is a thrilling, crazy and surprising experience every day—especially when we work on projects outside of the magazine. Our latest task was to create a free-standing, automated sampling station filled with premium beauty products priced at $3, $5 and $10 each.

The idea spawned from a massive survey we did with our NewBeauty Beauty Influencer Panel of readers. We discovered that more than 87% of shoppers were open to new methods of sampling beauty products. That statistic shocked us.

About 20,000 people subscribe to our TestTube program, and we all have our favorite promotions that specialty beauty stores or department stores offer to introduce great products into our product-junkie lives. "Team NewBeauty" knew we had to take sampling to the next level.

So we did.

November marked the launched of the first ever NewBeauty SampleBar in Miami, Florida's Aventura Mall. Filled with over 60 types of hair, skin, body and smile products, the beauty-curious can try deluxe-size samples from the luxury brands they read about in the pages of the magazine.

The feedback and response to our SampleBar trial has been overwhelming! Check out the coverage we recently received on Miami's NBC Channel 6 and South Florida's FOX Channel 7 Style File segment.

Next up, we hope to see a NewBeauty SampleBar in malls and across the country, as well as airports, which I'd love, personally, because I'm one of those gals who need a separate bag just for my toiletries!

What a great idea. I live in Tampa, FL and would love to see this at one of the malls in this area. I would probably be there every week. I love the NewBeauty TestTube program also. I have been a member since it first started.

I'm so happy to see this idea implemented. Products are just too expensive to buy without knowing if they will work for you and not case a breakout or allergic reaction. I always sample first, but the traditional Department stores are still not customer focused and still withholding samples. Their never gonna change unless innovative ideas like the sample bar make them, or they start loosing sales. Look out Department stores! I hope the sample bar will come to Tysons Corner VA. LOVE IT! LOVE IT!

As I read about the new launch of the samplebar in Florida, I would love to see this here in the Pasadean/San Gabrial area. I think this is a wonderful way to get anyone who wants to try something new with out paying a full price for the products. Due to todays econ I think this will help a lot.... Cant wait to see this at the malls in the LA Area....

This is the best idea this cosmetic junkie has seen in a long time. Please consider putting one of these at the King of Prussia Mall in Pennsylvania. That place rocks. When Sephora opened it was a madhouse, and that particular Sephora continues to have the highest sales of all the Sephora stores. King of Prussia is the largest mall in the US besides the Mall of America and is located 20 minutes from Philadelphia. This would be gold mine!!

How about this opportunity for online shopper's? The same offer's that the vending machine carries...it would be nice to be able to sample a product you really want prior to buying full size and so often free sample's online are not picked by the consumer.

Definitely place this in airports since we cannot carry ONTO flight so many products, but a sample size at the designation airport would be so excellent!

This is a fabulous idea! I can't believe that no one else has thought to do this before. I love samples and a vending machine full of them will be too difficult to resist! Please bring a NewBeauty SampleBar to Southern California (anywhere in Southern Cali; I'm willing to drive!)

I'm SOOOO glad to see this! I've been suggesting it to Sephora for years! As a consumer, I'm glad to spend a few bucks to get to try these items out, without feeling like I have to beg for samples at counters in the mall. Glad New Beauty is leading the way with this......I live in a really small town, and don't expect to see one of the machines here, so hopefully the next step will be allowing us to purchase these online!

Here's another vote for Tampa - the International Mall would be a perfect location for the SampleBar. Looking forward to sampling soon!

LOVE the idea of having this in airports! However, why NOT offer these trial sized for the same small fee online? I really enjoy my test tube and would take advantage of deluxe trial sizes in between shipments!

my point of view as a licensed aesthetician: we need a samplebar in bonita springs naples florida areas asap. with so many plastic surgeons and medical spas in the vicinity, a sample bar will be optimal for new product testing
