Botox and fillers: the new norm

Posted Monday, July 06, 2009

Sure, lots of celebrities subscribe to Botox and hyaluronic fillers; but if you think they're the typical patient, you'd be mistaken. The average fan of injectables is actually quite ... well ... average.

According to a new survey by the Aesthetic Surgery Education & Research Foundation, most patients receiving cosmetic injectables can be describe as married, working mothers between 41 and 55 years old, with a five-figure household income.

"Demographic and perception data trends show us that aesthetic injectable treatments have continued to evolve into mainstream and accepted options for the everyday woman," according to ASERF president Laurie Casas, MD. Injectables are so acceptable, in fact, that 87% of the almost 700 people surveyed report discussing their treatments, with 70% of those they've told responding to the admission supportively.

Botox and fillers may not be as mainstream as moisturizers yet—and as medical procedures, they will never be as accessible—but with a majority of injectable patients saying they are an important part of their beauty routine, we can expect to see their acceptance and popularity continue to rise.

The best anti-aging combo of products is Retin-A and Botox! Retin-A at night (mixed half strength with some type of moiturizer) Vitamin C serum, or moisturizer during the day. Botox every 3-4 months to relax that tired, worried, angry brow! Make sure you do a weekly mask, and try to get a professional facial monthly. And of course...STAY OUT OF THE SUN, and use sunscreen
