Eye-area aging occurs earlier in African Americans

It's common knowledge among beauty experts that African American skin is more wrinkle-resistant than Caucasian skin. In fact, a Caucasian woman's forehead is likely to show signs of aging a full decade earlier than that of an African-American woman. But it may surprise you to learn that the opposite is true in the eye area.
A study by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons found that the outer corner of African Americans' eyes drops lower and at a younger age than with Caucasians. This can make lower lids look looser and make under-eye bags more prominent, resulting in an older appearance.
An eye lift can restore the youthful slant that has begun drooping. Because of African American skin's tendency to show scarring, an experienced surgeon can perform an eye lift by going through the inside of the lower eyelid and hiding a small scar in the upper eyelid crease.
