Don't cut corners on cosmetic surgery costs

Posted Tuesday, April 07, 2009

Bargain-hunting may seem smart during tough economic times, but cosmetic surgery is one area where you shouldn't put price before quality. More often than not, those offering the lowest prices on serious procedures are those with the lowest qualifications.

"The search for bottom-basement prices may impact safety, and patients should proceed carefully before putting their faces in the hands of just anyone," says John Canady, MD, president of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, which recommends that potential patients ask themselves if they're considering credentials more than cost, and if a deal sounds too good to be true. (In most cases, it probably is.)

If you still feel driven to get a cosmetic procedure despite a tight budget, consider less expensive, less invasive treatments like injectables and lasers. And remember, spending less money on substandard surgery now could mean spending a lot more on corrective procedures later.
