SIMON FREDRICKS, MD
Simon Fredricks, MD, of Houston is clinical professor at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Fredricks is the founder and a past president of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). In addition, he has served as a president of the Plastic Surgery Education Foundation of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and as president of the Aesthetic Society Education and Research Foundation. A pioneer in the practice of body-contouring surgery, specifically liposuction, Dr. Fredricks headed the Blue Ribbon Committee that introduced liposuction to the United States. He authored the commission's report in the journal Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery that led to FDA approval of liposuction. In addition, he is the author of numerous, published scientific articles and has contributed to 15 textbooks on plastic surgery.
Dr. Fredricks has served as visiting professor for ASAPS for two terms, lecturing to accredited university-based plastic surgery training programs throughout the United States. A noted lecturer across the globe, he was in the first group of plastic surgeons invited by the Chinese government to lecture on aesthetic surgery and perform demonstration surgeries in Beijing. He was a charter member of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, serving as secretary general and presiding over its international conference in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Dr. Fredricks has served as president of both the Houston and Texas Societies of Plastic Surgeons. He is a member of the American Association of Plastic Surgeons, whose membership is by invitation only. In recognition of his contributions in the field of aesthetic plastic surgery, he has been made an honorary member of the Chicago Society, the Northwest Society, the New England Society and the Southeastern Society of Plastic Surgeons. A very provocative and sought-after speaker and moderator at plastic surgery conferences and medical meetings throughout the world, Dr. Fredricks is a recipient of the Distinguished Alumnus Award of the Chicago Medical School. He is dedicated to bringing accurate information about aesthetic surgery to consumers so they can make informed and educated judgments and choices.
