Dry cheeks and a shiny T-zone are the classic signs of combination skin. It can be a challenge to find an effective beauty routine when you’re dealing with a mix of oily and dry skin. That’s why we turned to Melbourne, FL, dermatologist Anita Saluja, MD  to find out the three things we should in mind when caring for combination skin.

Be Gentle

Since dry and oily types have different needs, you want to keep skin balanced. Steer clear of harsh soaps that can irritate and trigger even more oil production. Instead use  a mild cleanser to get rid of dirt and impurities without stripping skin of the moisture. Our pick: GlamGlow’s YouthCleanse Daily Exfoliating Cleanser ($39) because it deeply cleans and renews with a foaming lather that’s easy on skin.

Go Light

Light moisturizers, serums and oils are perfect for combination skin. They give skin the hydration it needs without feeling heavy, especially on the oily parts of your face. bareMinerals Purely Nourishing Moisturizer ($28), for example, is not only light on skin but provides the balanced hydration you need for a younger and briighter looking complexion.

Be Sure To Exfoliate

Overly dry skin can lead to dullness and flakes, which makes exfoliating a must. However, if it’s too abrasive, it can make an oily T-zone worse.  To get rid of dead cells while being gentle, choose a product with Hydroxy Acids like salicylic. This anti-aging ingredient gently exfoliates skin, minimizes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles as well as improves texture.  Revision Skincare’s Black Mask ($32)  has the salicylic acid that gently exfoliates while earth clays unclog pores and absorb oils to reveal smooth and polished combination skin.
