Ask an Expert: What’s the Best Way to Fix Stained Veneers?
Veneers are perhaps the easiest and fastest way to get the perfect smile you’ve always dreamed of, but sometimes that happily-ever-after smile doesn’t last long due to stains. And while veneers typically don’t stain, we spoke with two experts to find out how to fix them in case yours do.
“Dental veneers can be fabricated from composite or porcelain,” says Naperville, IL, dentist Anthony LaVacca, DMD. “Composite veneers will typically stain slightly, while porcelain laminate veneers may not stain at all.”
“The cause of staining would be the typical foods and beverages that cause staining like coffee, tea, red wine, dark fruits and some vegetables,” says Beverly Hills, CA, cosmetic dentist Laurence Rifkin, DDS.
If you do come across stains on your veneers, routine dental cleanings can help remove them, along with debris buildup. However if you have direct bonding resin veneers, “They need to be either directly resurfaced professionally by a dentist because no bleaching product will remove the stains,” says Dr. Rifkin.
