After a hectic day at work or just a busy day in general, sometimes it’s nice to unwind at home with a glass of our favorite red wine. While we’ve been sipping away guilt-free for years thanks to claims that it’s good for your waistline, health and anti-aging, a new study is about to change that.
Researchers at the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona found that while alcoholic and nonalcoholic red wines contain equal amounts of antioxidants, the way your body absorbs them is different. It turns out that the alcohol blocks the antioxidants from providing any benefits, including protecting the heart.
Antioxidants are extremely important when it comes to skin care. They help repair sun damage, and reduce inflammation and the appearance of wrinkles. So if you’re drinking red wine for the beauty and benefits, it may be a good idea to switch to one without the alcohol.
