The Power of Makeup: Look Younger Instantly
One of the main reasons we wear makeup is to enhance our facial features. But, if you’re applying your makeup incorrectly, not wearing the right colors for your skin tone and age, or not wearing any makeup at all, you may be making yourself look older than you really are.
At age 40, our redheaded model looks as if she is in her 50s. One of her biggest beauty concerns was her eyes. “When she wears eye makeup, she feels they look even smaller,” says celebrity makeup artist Scott Barnes. “Her eyes are a great color—a pale gray-blue-green—and I wanted to show her how she could get more ‘wow’ from them.”
Freckles and redness can plague even mature skin. “She has a healthy complexion, but there’s a lot of red undertones,” says Barnes. For redheads, Barnes suggests using neutral-colored lipsticks or corals, which aren’t too pink, so they don’t create a muddy look.
“By making her eyes the focus with dark shadows and liner, I was able to create a wide-eyed, younger look. Her eyes appear fuller and bolder but not harsh or heavily made up. To alleviate some of the redness in her skin, I used a pinky-beige foundation, which gave a more uniform tone,” says Barnes.
What do you think of this makeup transformation?

Question: How come the first pic doesn't have a special fan blowing the hair around? The first pic has low lighting and is made to seem worse than it is - it's all about how the pic is taken. Also why wouldn't you ultize the facial epression in the same manner for both pics?

It's misleading "helpful tips" like these that make many women torture themselves in an attempt to achieve perfection. Don't get me wrong, I'm totally obsessed with makeup, but there isn't a foundation in the world that obliterates wrinkles as well as computer airbrushing!

I don't know about anyone else, but the "after" photo looks like Julia. The woman in the "before" photo is attractive, if we look at the nose in both photos, I can't believe any amount of makeup/lighting can so dramatically change it's entire structure. Even if it was accomplished through these means, the amount used would have to be very unnatural in person.

I too am going to have to agree with everyone here. Great ideas but you can definitely tell it was airbrushed on the second photo. No wrinkles or lines her neck is way too smooth in the second photo versus the first one. I think this is why women are always trying so many products and than get frustrated because we don't end up looking even close to the picture we saw in the magazine or on line. Yes, I know the company is trying to sell a product but how about showing us a picture with just a touch more honesty.

looks fake to me...but the article has some strong points to consider

I think the "after" picture was airbrushed because you can't even see the wrinkles and there is no make up capable of completely eliminate wrinkles.. especially on your neck.. I agree that we need to find the right makeup for your age, but there's no makeup that will do this by itself!

She looks beautiful; what products did you use?

I think photoshop has helped this transformation more than the makeup has.

This is AMAZING! and I want someone to teach me this! My 40th is Nov 1st and after all these years I still have no idea how to wear makeup.

No way that's just makeup. The photo is touched up...no wrinkles or lines...no way. Disappointing that it's not an honest photo. Just like all these commercials and magazines for mascara...all the models have false lashes. It's false advertising!!!
