Make Your Teeth Bling With This Toothbrush
Take one look at the sparkling smiles on the clients of Portland, OR, cosmetic dentist, Raymond Frye, DMD, and you'll want their gorgeous, white teeth too. That's why when he told me about his Bling Dental Diamond Ultrasonic Toothbrush ($219), I just had to give it a try. After all, it's like no other toothbrush I've used before. Here's why:
First, it really gets your teeth clean. Plug it in to charge and when it's ready, pop on the toothbrush head, turn it on and you'll immediately feel the power of 30,000 ultrasonic strokes per minute (there's no way your hand could keep up with that). The brush is small and soft, but really gets into all the crevices around your teeth and gums. Plus, it has three modes: high, soft and massage-so you get a more personal cleanse. It also has a two minute auto-timer so you know when you've reached your minimum brushing time, along with 30 second alerts (it stops for a split second) to let you know when it's time to change your brushing area.
My favorite part-the charging base also has a germ-attacking UV bulb that kills about 99 percent of bacteria that can grow on your toothbrush. Once you're finished brushing, you pull off the head and pop it into the enclosed chamber. It lights up for seven minutes while it sanitizes your brush (it can hold up to four at a time so my husband stores his in there too) and keeps it protected until it's time to use it again.
My teeth feel clean and white-and like I could almost (I said almost!) skip my next dentist appointment.

I like to warn my patients who have bonded restorations to avoid using ultrasonic toothbrushes until I see research done showing that the ultrasonic vibrations have no effect on possibly de-bonding or loosening restorations. So I advise them to use a site specific brush like Rotodent or InterPlak in these areas as well as hand soft brushes.
