Cosmetic Surgery’S New Growing Demographic
It's pretty widely understood that women have always been more concerned with how they look as they age than men. Of course we are. Men look distinguished as they age, right? And with the George Clooneys and Sean Connerys of the world looking attractive well into mature ages, that idea seemed solid.
However, new data from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons shows that more men than ever are seeking out cosmetic enhancement procedures. From 2009 to 2010, there was a 14 percent increase in men getting facelifts, an 11 percent increase in ear surgery requests and a 10 percent increase in soft tissue filler treatments.
Possibly the result of the rise in baby boomer men reaching retirement age, the trend is likely to continue. Apparently the guys want to look as good as their female counterparts in life. By volume the top five aesthetic surgical procedures requested by men were:
1. Nose Reshaping
2. Eyelid Surgery
4. Breast Reduction in Men
5. Hair Transplantation
The most popular minimally invasive procedure requested were:
1. Botulinum Toxin Type A Injections (by a wide margin)
2. Laser Hair Removal
4. Chemical Peel
5. Soft Tissue Fillers
