Doctor Q&A
HOW DO YOU CREATE AN INFORMED CONSUMER IN EACH OF YOUR PATIENTS?
In consultation, my discussions are very detailed. After talking about patients’ goals and cosmetic objectives, I draw individualized sketches, illustrating anatomy, scar placement and incision position so they know what to expect. No guesswork is involved, and all factors are taken into consideration. I empower patients through this detailed education and they appreciate the varied methods used, ranging from photos to customized digital slideshows.
Is it safe to undergo two procedures at once?
Combination procedures are safe, so long as you’re in the hands of a surgeon who has experience with complex procedures. Comprehensive renewal is a large component of my practice, as I offer breast and body surgeries, facial rejuvenation, injectables and full-scale skin care, which I often pair together. Sometimes a patient will only present one aesthetic concern; other times, patients may seek multi-faceted rejuvenation. Either way, I propose a variety of procedures, starting with the least-invasive options.

INSIDE INFORMATION
COMPLETE MAKEOVERS
With half of his practice dedicated to facial rejuvenation and the other half to breast and body procedures, Dr. Barber is skilled in many areas of his specialty. In terms of treatments for the face, Dr. Barber offers nonsurgical chemical peels, liquid lifts, Botox®, Dysport™ and dermal fillers, plus fat grafting, mini facelifts and full facelifts. “It’s not uncommon for patients to undergo ancillary treatments in addition to surgical procedures.” When it comes to body contouring, Dr. Barber is equally as comprehensive. “When I perform abdominoplasty, I many times recommend liposuction, too. It’s not enough to just flatten the tummy; liposuction is great for refining the waist and hips.” When performing breast surgery, Dr. Barber may recommend a combination of procedures. “We can lift and augment the breasts at the same time. It’s also possible to reduce and lift the breasts. It’s important to discuss all options so patients can make more intelligent decisions.”
