Joss Stone’s wild new hair color: Could it work for you?

Posted Monday, March 26, 2007

There’s nothing “normal” about Joss Stone. The 20-year-old Brit has sold more than 7 million albums and sounds perfectly natural covering anyone from Aretha Franklin to the White Stripes. Definitely not normal. That’s why we’re not all that shocked that she recently changed her hair to an equally not-normal color: magenta.

With last week’s release of her new album, puzzlingly called Introducing Joss Stone, she’s been seen sporting not-quite-purple hair—a huge leap from the naturally blonde locks we had grown so used to. But even though magenta hair doesn’t exactly occur in nature, something about the way it’s done just works.

If you can picture yourself making such a bold hair-color move, don’t try this at home. If you attempt this yourself, you may end up looking like a punky teenager who got bored and dyed their hair with a Kool-Aid cocktail. What makes this artsy, sexy and young-yet-sophisticated look succeed are the variations. There are at least three shades winding their way through Joss’s hair: a super-dark burgundy, a deep wine, and a candy-like hot pink. This is a job for a professional who’s as experimental as the woman who wants it done.

From the second I saw Joss Stone on MTV cribs, I wanted this haircolor. My stylist is doing it tomorrow! I can't wait!
