The medspa generation

Even though non-invasive cosmetic procedures, such as Botox and injectable fillers, are available at board-certified plastic surgeons' and dermatologists' offices, many women choose to have them administered at a medspa. This is especially true of women between 18 and 34 years old, according to findings by the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery.
Younger women are reportedly three times more likely to undergo a non-invasive treatment at a medspa than those 35 to 64 years old. Unfortunately, the under-34 set is also more likely to be indifferent about who's performing the procedure. Although most would prefer that the medspa's physician conduct their chosen treatment, the AACS found that more than half claim they would be comfortable if a physician wasn't present.
"There are good and bad medspas out there," says former AACS president Steven Hopping, MD, FACS, "and we want the public to be aware, ask questions and always make sure there is a qualified physician doing the procedure. If not, don't have it done."
