Eye-area aging is earlier in African Americans

It's common knowledge among beauty experts that African-American skin is more wrinkle-resistant than Caucasian skin. In fact, a Caucasian woman's forehead is likely to show signs of aging a full decade earlier than that of an African-American woman. But it may surprise you to learn that the opposite is true in the eye area.
A study by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons found that the outer corner of African Americans' eyes drops lower and at a younger age than with Caucasians. This can make lower lids look looser and make under-eye bags more prominent, resulting in an older appearance. An eye lift can restore the youthful slant that has begun drooping.
Because of African-American skin's tendency to show scarring, an experienced surgeon can perform an eye lift by going through the inside of the lower eyelid and hiding a small scar in the upper eyelid crease.
